I installed the new app to an SD card for my 720 so I could revert easily to 8.351 if 9.400 screwed up the device or I didn't like it.

It worked fine, but I couldn't see any benefits and, maybe it's my imagination, but the screen seemed less sensitive. However, I've removed the card because it was showing the time remaining instead of the ETA, which I find more useful, and I couldn't find a way to change it.

Does anyone know if it's possible to show the ETA?

From the other posts in this thread, that sounds like a *good* thing to happen. Shocked

On the Navcore 11 devices, I thought I read that your permission to gather anonymous data is requested from you. If you say YES, fine. If you say NO, Live Services will no longer be available - you can re-acquire Live Services by giving the data permission. Any sign of that on this update?

Yep it's exactly the same on my 940 Live. It's kind of irrelevant though as all I get then is the "error 1008" message. Evil or Very Mad

WOW! It has indeed been removed. A major marketing point for the last few years, and one of the key benefits of the HD Traffic, has been completely removed! To go from telling you when you are likely to arrive, which has been a marvellous thing to just the distance is such a major step backward.

This, I think, should be picked up by "the press" and TomTom asked why they would do such a thing. Hopefully they will say "oops" but it is much more likely to be the result of the HD traffic fiasco.

[edit] The good news is that it gives me the 1008 error, so I can't use it anyway...

Seems to me that on my 530 the battery is holding more charge for longer with 9.400 than 8.351. Could the shutdown configuration now be using less power?

Another change with 9.400 - if you use the new Maximum Speed indicator you lose the heading information in the left hand pane of the status bar; with previous Navcores you could have both maximum speed and heading visible.

However if you disable the new maximum speed indicator the whole of the left hand pane goes red if you exceed the speed limit.

I haven't checked if it's been removed, but there was a lot of criticism of the ETA times on sat navs in general, because the anti-speeding lobby said it promoted speeding as people were driving faster to beat the ETA times.

Don't need time left but would like to know how far it is.

I do still have distance remaining showing (on a Go940 and an XL Live), so it *is* possible.

In the right-hand panel I have:
1. arrival time
2. time remaining
3. Distance remaining.
Maybe you have too many items selected in check your settings?

Just been to Aylesbury with the 550. Have 'max speed', 'distance remaining to destination', and 'alg' selected as status bar options. But I still get ETA and time to destination shown in the status bar.

Okay, help me find it. I have "Status bar preferences" and in that dialog I have six items:
    Maximum speed
    Current time
    Remaining distance
    Leeway
    Show compass
    Show lane guidance

I have all but compass checked. Ah, I think it is simply on the wrong side! Okay, stupid me! Shhh, don't tell anyone I made an arse out of myself.

Some items are there all the time, so (confusingly) they don't appear in the options list.

That SHOULD only happen after a re-boot (eg after a software update), not after every start-up.

Are you sure it's happening on a normal switch on?

Me too! Embarassed

But I find the old status bar layout much more logical (I couldn't miss the ETA on that!), and easier to see at a glance what's important to me.

v8.531:

As far as the layout's concerned it may just be a case of preferring what you're used to, but the old one has more options too.

So I don't think I'll be using the new app.

The problem is I can't untick the update in HOME, so I can't download MapShare corrections either!

I've got a 720 and have also noticed that the battery indicator, at least, doesn't drop its indication quite so quickly!

Whether this equates to the battery not discharging as quickly, time will tell.

Another improvement appears is that the RDS/TMC receiver picks up a lot quicker. Almost instantly instead of having to wait sometimes 15-20 mins for it to lock on.
