........... All (or nearly all) French Laws are designed with a "get-out", you just have to know the "get-out."..........
Having said that, foreign plated vehicles are an easy target.........
If you become aware of the "Get-Out", please let us know.
I'm planning to pop into France next week (to buy some breathalysers) by MotorBike, I gather that wearing a Reflective Jacket/Tabbard is already obligatory?
Edit - Oops!, Not mandatory, obligatory. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Is there a difference? Other than the gender implication
Now that I've checked, not a lot. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Hi, I have just returned from a ski trip to France via coach, and it got me wondering about this situation during the long trip.
Speed cameras we introduced to lower the death and accidents in danger black spots, so the ban is stupid we all agree, has anyone looked at this Law and thought fine we can not identify cameras but we can give warnings for accident black spot zones, say 5 miles zones where a camera could be in there or not.
This would be a safety warning and nothing to do with mapped locations of cameras, or trying to avoid getting caught but slowwing down and speeding up aftert eh camera.
Otherwise we just aviod the country like I did last year whe driving to autria, TomTom route was 17miles longer, but 100 Euro cheaper than going straight through France, Hit them where it hurts if you don't drive on the motorways there.

OK, so TomTom quickly produced a "fix" to remove the French speed camera data next time we connected to Home.
So why am I now on what must be my THIRD update since then and I still get a "Removal Speed cameras France" item every time? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Could you please give us an update on the status of this problem with respect to CamerAlert ?
Are you going to remove the French cameras from the database or change them to "Dangerous Zones" or what ?
TIA Roger
We have already made the French cameras an optional download for satnav devices.. Anyone concerned at the current situation can choose not to install them.
For CamerAlert it's a simple matter to delete the app in its entirety and re-install once back in UK. And it can be done over the air.
We're not making any other knee jerk changes to the system until we have a better understanding of the French legislation and are happy that it is to become a long term one. There is considerable pressure to overturn this new legislation from interests in France. _________________ Darren Griffin

Rules on the radar alert devices have been clarified – new ones sold in France will in the future have to be certified suitable by the government. In fact police do not have powers to check on software on the old ones or on smartphones, however, in theory people who have these should not activate camera-checking functions. The government says in any case, they will eventually become obsolete if they are not updated.
TomTom deleted my French database, which I have now put back !!, never again will I subscribe to anything from tomtom, as I'm certain I won't get a refund !!

I certainly understand that you don't want a knee-jerk reaction, and I also understand the work-around of deleting/reinstalling, but living as I do about 45 mins from the Italian/French border and making regular trips to Nice airport, it's a bit of a pain !
Let's hope the law is rescinded ASAP, but I'm not holdingmy breath.
This is a reply received from Garmin today regarding Zumo550:
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
We've been releasing software updates since the change in law in France
regarding safety cameras to make our devices compliant with French law
regarding safety camera alerts but unfortunately there is no software
released yet and we are not sure when/if one will be released for your
device to enable you to download the software for the updated Cyclops
database, which now covers Dangerous Zones in France, rather than
specific safety camera locations.
You can remove the Safety Camera data from the device by connecting it
to the PC, Open the Garmin Folder, POI Folder and remove the data
Cyclops file for France and Benelux from here. Alternatively, you can
disable the safety cameras if you are going to be using it in France.
Go to Tools, Settings, Proximity Alerts, Change, Untick the box next to
Garmin Safety Cameras. This will disable the safety cameras until you
enable again by ticking the box.
Helps a little bit I suppose but I lose all my POI's for France or take a chance just switching off the Alerts which as I understand it is still an offence.
