I have the Marco Polo travel guide installed on an SD card and it works perfectly well on my Nuvi 310. However, if I put the card into my newly bought 1490 it is not recognised.
Does anyone know why this is?

The 310 takes full-size SD cards, and the 1490 has a micro-SD slot, so presumably we're not talking about the same physical card?
Possibly the data on the card is tied to the serial number of the card, or the 1490 is more picky about which directory the .GPI file is in?

Yes it's the same card I just used an adapter for the 310 |

In that case, maybe it's not showing up where you expect, in the menu structure ...
ie "Travel Kit" | "Travel Guide" | "Marco Polo Europe" on the 310
becomes
"Where to?" | "Extras" | "Marco Polo Europe" on the 1490
(That's a bit of a guess; I just tried it on a 300 and a 1300, which are probably representative of the two families of Nüvi involved...)

Afraid not. I just tried it and all that's in there is some custom POI's.
Perhaps it has to be in a different folder to be recognised by the 1490. |

I take it the 1490 has a \POI directory, in contrast to the 310's \Garmin\Poi directory?
You could try putting the .GPI file in \POI on the card (although it didn't seem to upset the 1300, and I thought it would.
I take it there's a matching .UNL file, which would also need moving.

No go I'm afraid I even tried putting the files straight into the POI folder in the 1490. And yes there is a .unl file with the Travel Guide .gpi file.
Thank you for your replies.

It could be that the Marco Polo guide is locked to the unit, rather than the card.
If you have another card to try, you could find out if this is the case...
Copy the contents of your working card to another one and try it in the 310. If it's locked to the card, it should stop working. If, however, it still works, then it's locked to the unit (and thus will not work with any other).

I have changed it over and yes it still works on the 310, how then do I unlock it to the 1490? |

If it's locked to the device (your 310) then you can't |
