I have just purchased and received a 750 live
All well and good you may think
Well nearly
It came complete with a German computer voice, whereas i would really like an English female UK voice, not unreasonable you may think.
So onto TomTom support only to be told that no such voice exists
Does anyone have a link to a female Uk English voice for a 750, its not that I am homophobic i just prefer the tone on a female voice over that of a male voice |

Have you tried connecting your 750 to your computer and downloading an alternative voice using TomTomHome?
Don't forget to take a full Windows Explorer (not TThome) back up of your SatNav before doing anything else. Store the backup safely on your computer. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

There used to be two UK English voices - one female [Kate], and one male [Simon] - and two US voices, Charles and Susanna [I think], but Charles and Kate disappeared. Andy P posted that he thought there was a licensing issue with Loquendo, and that it was unlikely more voices would return. TT is concentrating on the 100x/Via range and the voices are programmed differently. So you are stuck with one male UK voice or one US female voice. Though Kate is popular and many people have her installed, so possibly you could beg a file from someone. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Ah I see, thank you for the info, clearly the support person was quite correct.
I suppose its perfectly understandable that TomTom cannot be bothered to supply a UK female voice
After all there are only 60 million+ residents on this rocky outcrop
I do have a Kate voice backed up I will find it and give it a go
Can anyone tell me if all I have to do is drop it into the TTs folder
Thanks in advance |

How about these two links:
British Kate Voice
British Simon Voice
To install the download to your device connect it to the PC and use WinRar to extract the download straight to the LoquendoTTS folder on the device - Mike |

8GB cards are fine in that model. Upto 32GB works apparently (never tried it personally).
To see map and Application software version on a 750 just go to the main menu page 3 and select "Status and information" then "version information".
That will take you to a full screen of text on a white background. Software version is on the second and third lines down. Map version is on the 6th. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thank you I have ordered a transcend card from Amazon and will be updating the map as soon as the card arrives
Can anyone tell me whether or not Tomtom have modified the car charger they supply
On my previous charger One V2, I connected the sense terminal to the o/p terminal on the board in the charger, to prevent any overvoltage issues. Before I force apart my new charger to check I thought I would ask

The charger cables are still the same with the voltage sense connected to the + pin of the mini USB lead, when this feedback joint breaks it fires 12V straight in to the TomTom, this lets the magic smoke escape and they don't seem to work once the smokes all gone - Mike |

But I haven't heard of any sense wires breaking for years now....
Have you?
I think it only affected early versions of the charger (around the Go Classic and Go x00 era). _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

The same crap design is used on the mini USB charger leads, I took one to bits only last month! - Mike |

Ok so no change then
Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but opening up the charger and connecting the sense (white from memory) to the o/p (red) at the board connection prevents any over voltage issues. If the cable is damaged (+ve or neg) then the tomtom gets no charge instead of being fried |
