|
|
I hope somebody can help. I installed the Camera Alert App on to my iPod Touch but get no warning when I approach a camera position.
The status is shown as "You are not subscribed for downloads"
Server = 9.071 (29030)
Device = 7.101 (26808)
Do I need to be a subscriber for the App to work or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks from a confused JohnBoy |

Hi JohnBoy
A couple of things here:
Firstly - I've checked the download history for your account and you downloaded the database on 8th July. Have you removed and reinstalled the app in the mean-time? If so then that will explain why you are seeing 'Device = 7.101 (26808)' as that is the default (and out of date) database that ships with the app. All users get a single update and after that updates require a subscription.
Secondly - iPod Touch does not have any GPS so you need to use an external receiver (eg the TomTom mount, Magellan mount, or any of the handful of available ones for jailbroken devices). Do you have a GPS receiver you are using as you don't mention any details of it. Without a GPS receiver the app does not know where you are so can not show you which cameras are coming up...

Thanks MaFt,
You are right. I did reinstall the App because after using my option to update, the App did not give any warning when I approached a camera sight so I deleted the App and reinstalled it.
I do have a GPS receiver but it is integrated into my dashboard. It is not portable like a Tom Tom unit. When you say that I need an external receiver, do you mean something like the one shown on this site http://direct.asda.com/TT-GO-LIVE-Active-Dock-Mount-Kit/000595754,default,pd.html . Will my iPod Touch sit in the cradle?
Finally, how do I become a subscriber and how much doe sit cost?
Thanks for your help.

You can subscribe in the app or here. The current rate is £19.99 which allows you to use the data on a maximum of three devices (SatNavs, iOS or Android smartphones). _________________ Darren Griffin |

That mount is NOT suitable, it's for a TomTom GO device and doesn't even have a GPS receiver.
This one is an official TomTom one, but I'd guess there are more available - it must have a GPS receiver. _________________ Dennis
