|
|
Hi,
Ever since i installed the PGPS Database to my device (nuvi 1340) it has caused it to constantly freeze whenever it comes up to, or near a speed camera. The only way to un-freeze it, is to exit to the main menu and select to view the map again, but this is very annoying and dangerous.
Has anyone experiecnced this before, and what can i do to fix it.
Regards |

Our database is simply a list of locations in text format. The data is in Garmin approved format which is then converted using Garmin's POILoader app at installation. So it's not our data that is the issue, just wanted to clarify that bit.
We've had no other reports of an issue so a few Q's.
Does this happen at every speed camera, just a few or one in particular? Also, do you have the Garmin Speed Cameras installed and active too? And do you have other POIs installed as well? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'd say it happens at 80-90% of speed cameras, the map just freezes, however the displayed speed i am traveling and distance to a junction does not. These are the only POI's and only active POI's on my device. when i turn the PGPS POI's off, my satnav works fine, as does it with only the Garmin speed camera alerts that came with the device turned on. |

Very odd, can I ask you to retry using the Consolidated by Type Database version instead of the speed Zoned version you have been using.
I think I'm right in saying that, if using POILoader, there is no benefit to using the Speed Zoned version as Garmin will alert to speed using Consolidated anyway, and it's fewer files. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Im not sure of the actual version number, but it is the newest as i updated it the other day. However i have ran 2 different software updates previously whilst using PGPS speed cams, and i have had the same problem every time. |

I have a Garmin 1490t, with speed zoned complete and sometimes when passing specs the screen freezes, but all I do is return to main menu as you said, and this solves the problem. It only does it with specs, but not always. For various reasons this is the fifth 1490t I have owned ,and they have all suffered with the same problem. |

I'm not ignoring you but in the absence of a spate of complaints from other Garmin users I can't offer advice.
It's certainly not a common complaint but I'll ask in our Newsletter tomorrow to see if others have experienced it. Aside from that, not sure what we can do. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Is this possibly related to the old Garmin problem of only supporting a limited number of POI categories on some models? I assume not, now we are a few more years (and models) down the line, but just a thought in case the problem HAS resurfaced ... _________________ David

The OP says our POIs are the only ones installed so it shouldn't be the case. I have a nüvi 2360 here which runs the database without any such issues. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Recently bought a Garmin 1490T. Has exactly the same problem. Locks up randomly at speed camera's.
Speed Camera Database and Voice Files are loaded.
Slightly different idea as to what the cause of the problem might be.
Appears to lock up when the built-in street/direction voice clashes with the speed camera announcement voice.
Let's getting reporting..... this is obviously a widespread problem.
Anyone any idea's or thoughts on this ? |

does it do it still if you DON'T have the voice files loaded?
CCJJ - do YOU have the voice files loaded too?

Hi all i think i found out why. After BIGPERK mentioned about a limited number of POI's being supported, i looked in the POI folder on the garmin device (through my desktop). I saw all the old PGPS camera database's were still on the device. I deleted them all and then installed the current database, and voila, it worked without freezing at all.
I'm sure ive read on this forum that when loading new POI's there is no need to delete the old ones as they are overwritten, however this seems to be untrue (for me anyway, as far as i can tell).
thanks to everyone in the tread! |
