|
|
On the new version on BB9800 I noticed the other day that there is now functionality to tap an icon to report speed cameras. It's quick, easy and hopefully useful to be able to report where speed cameras are if they are not already listed. That's the good bit.
The problem is that I drove last night from the airport to hotel in France and again from the Hotel to my company site this morning. In total I passed 5 speed camera's and not one of them alerted me, despite speed camera alerts being enabled. It was certainly working in the UK a few days ago and worked on that route with previous versions of software/hardware.
So either
1) Speed camera alerts have stopped working entirely,
2) The ones on my route have disappeared from the database, or
3) Alerts don't work when you are not in your own country,
4) Or one or more of the above and it might just be on the 9800
Anyone else seen this? |

It would be nice if we could encourage Telmap to consider our database for the app. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, that would make sense given the location of the Forum
I guess that Telmap get the speed camera locations from where-ever they get the map data from (NAVTEQ I assume from the 'about' info)? |

Well I hope they were cheap, because they sure as hell aren't accurate _________________ Darren Griffin |

I've found them ok. Yes it's true that the road I drove on a couple of nights ago has been there a few months and Telmap put me in a field but that's no worse than when I was using an old TomTom with maps several years out of date.
Maybe I'm just not fussy enough. I'll ask my wife |

I am referring to the speed camera data - not the maps themselves? _________________ Darren Griffin |

As said in my first post they've been fine in the past which makes me think the underlying data is fine, it's functionality in the new Telmap software that's wrong. |

I tried navigating to work today and passed a speed camera and got no alert!
This is the first time for me in the UK and I'll try again more thoroughly on the way home (I'll take a route that passes a few).
I've now unchecked and then rechecked the speed camera alerts setting and we'll see if it was something with the setting that hadn't 'taken'.
Are others on the 9800 getting alerts still? |

So, some camera's are giving alerts and some are not. Having done the trip in France again I still got no alerts at any point on the journey. In the UK some camera's are giving alerts and some are not. |

Hi Syborg,
That camera icon you have seen is a preview to our community features allowing end users to report cameras.
Right now it's just the UI - and the reports don't really get fed into our system - but that will come in time.
I am still trying (with very limited resources) to investigate those speed camera locations you sent me and will get back to you on those.
Tks

Hi.
I did the same drive last night/this morning and the speed camera alerts are working again (even if the audio is too quiet).
It's clear that the road info on that route has been updated since I last did the trip as it now shows the new piece of dual carriageway south of Strasbourg and doesn't show me in a field anymore.
(NB the new bit of road is not where the speed cameras are)

H yYborg,
Thanks for that important update.
It does indicate that the problem was with the data feed we were using - although I wasn't able to fully investigate and prove that.
But good to know they are working now.
Tks
