I am looking to replace my old TomTom and have been researching the Nuvi 1490T.

I like all the facilities and features but have been a little reluctant to take the plunge and purchase one.

This is because of the mixture of problems reported in the many reviews I have read, many of these reviews having been written many months ago.

Can anyone tell me if the 1490T has undergone any revisions lately making it more reliable?

I know many people have provided good or excellent reviews so I am hoping that devices with problems are in a very small minority.

I suppose what I am really needing is confidence to go ahead and buy. Any advice would be most welcome.

John

I would stick with TomTom but the nearest equivalent model to the 1409 with a 5 inch screen does not have any 'traffic' facility.

I've had a 1490T for about 7 months now and it hasn't put a foot wrong. I also have a 1310 and that's worked flawlessly too, as has my Etrex. Trouble with reviews is that you generally only hear from those complaining, there are many satisfied Garmin customers out there and their sales easily outstrip Tomtom Very Happy

Go for the 1490, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for that encouragement, it's just what I'm looking for.

As you have a 1490T, could you tell me if has a 'composite video input' socket for use with a rear view camera? I can't find it listed in the specifications.

Thank you
John

I was happy with my 1490T before I passed it on to a friend, who is also happy with it. There is no video input on the standard model - you have to spend £100 more on the TV version for that.

Not many GPS have a video input. As said above, the 1490TV does, but it's expensive Sad
