If you have a POI category in your TT, say Hotels, and you download a new Hotel POI a year later (so that you get updates) is copying the file(s) (ov2/bmp) to the map folder all you have to do? Do you have to go to something like Manage POIs to tell the TT that new POIs have been added? |

Good question. Just copy the POI (OV2) file over and that's it. Nothing else to do. |

Thank you. If you download a single file, for say all the Hotels in France, and copy it to your map folder. What happens in the case of a map like Western Europe where there are multiple countries and at a later date you might download Hotels for Germany. If the file had the same name they will over write. If you download multiple files for a poi rather than one big one this could get serious. What is normal practice? |

You're right in everything you say so far, but it's easy to sort out.
If you want to keep the hotels for different countries separate, just rename the .ov2 files to something like "Hotels-France.ov2" and Hotels-Germany.ov2" while they are on your PC (before you copy them onto the TomTom).
The TomTom always uses whatever the file is called for the name it uses on screen, so you will now have two POI categories called "Hotels-France" and "Hotels-Germany",
If you do it this way, you will need to have two copies of the .bmp icon file as well, with the same names "Hotels-France.bmp" and Hotels-Germany.bmp"
If you DON'T want to keep them separate, just use one of the free POI editing programs to merge all the various files together into one.
The one I use is called POIEdit and to do it on that prog. you use File/ Open to open the first file,
then File / Append... to add all the other files one by one.
Then use File / Save as... to save the combined .ov2 file with whatever name you wish.
Finally, copy that onto the TomTom (along with a .bmp icon file)
I use just the same technique to combine various shop types - eg I combine Wickes,Homebase, B+Q etc. into one category called "DIY" and Sainsbury,Tesco,Co-OP, Waitrose etc. into "Supermarkets"
One final point... All of these user-POI files that you add are treated totally separately to the TomTom's OWN categories (their POIs are usually fairly rubbish), So you may want to give your "Hotels" category a slightly different name from TomToms own "Hotels" to avoid confusion when you are picking them out from the list of categories on screen (or just use a different icon!). |

Then Refresh the page and if you choose a Category it will include all those countries in one File. _________________ Richard
