|
|
on 4th December I purchased a TomTom Via 120 (in a Via 110 box!!). After a week of exploring it I could not get speed cameras to show up despite it saying on the box that these should be present. I therefore contacted support on 12th December and since then they have been 'working on a solution'. Initially they promised a new version for downloading by 24th December but I am still waiting! In the meantime they have thanked me for my patience!. I can use the 'notify new camera' function to insert a speed camera and this will then show up and sound a warning so it does seem to be an absence of data rather than the inability of the system to display it. Has anyone else experienced this problem yet? Inserting several thousand cameras would be an impossible task!! |

I follow @UKTomTom on twitter and they've programmed several tweets over Christmas New Year stating less than normal service. Hence it might be worth "poking" them again on the first Tuesday in January. Good luck! _________________ iOS rokcs (but my typing - well....)

Just remember the TomTom Speed Cameras don't include reliable Mobile locations just the fixed cameras. If your unit hasn't got the data loaded for their database you have two choices:
1/ Wait for them to fix the issue.
2/ Return the device as defective. (On the grounds that a service offered with the hardware doesn't work)
With no way to currently add Third Party POI files to the unit its not even possible to add missing files directly to the device - Mike |

Thank you for the replies. My last response form TomTom Support was on 28th December. (I assume they are based in Holland and 27th/28th December and 3rd January are not Bank Holidays there.) Support have promised to notify when the issue is fixed. I was interested to hear from anyone else with a Via as to whether they had experienced the same problem or whether it was specific to mine. I surmised that the problem is more general given the seriousness with which Tom Tom have accepted that there is a problem.
Whilst you cannot add POIs you can notify TomTom of new speed cameras which immediately show on your device. If it is not plugged in to a PC then presumabley the notification fails. However, it has allowed me to add local speed cameras but it is a painfully slow task.
Incidentally, I did receive a new map update download around 17th December. It took about 3 hours to download (my internet connection is about 5Mbps) and then a further 3 hours to install. Since it is the whole of the European map it is a 3GB download! |

I waited patiently and yeterday they made an update available which appears to have fixed the issue. I now have speed camera warnings as expected. |

Good luck, they're pretty poor. Don't rely on them. _________________ Darren Griffin |
