pocketgpsworld.comWe're delighted to announce that our popular iPhone App, CamerAlert is now available for Android powered smartphones.

CamerAlert is a Speed and Red Light Camera warning system that uses our renowned Speed Camera Database. It provides both audible and visual warnings as you approach a camera. When you are in a section of SPECs or Average Speed Cameras CamerAlert keeps track of your average speed to ensure you are aware of your average speed between each camera. To cut down on the number of "False Alerts" you are only warned for cameras that monitor your direction of travel.

CamerAlert works in two different modes: Map and List. In Map mode the main display is a map with the cameras positioned on it. This can be shown either as "North Up" or "Course Up". The list mode simply shows a list of all the cameras in the area, highlighting the ones that you are approaching.

CamerAlert comes preinstalled with a Speed Camera Database. To insure you have the latest camera information we also offer a free Latest Database Guarantee which allows you to download the latest database after product registration. CamerAlert allows you to use your existing PocketGPSWorld.com membership to keep the camera data up to date. With weekly releases of the database it is important to download the latest speed camera information to remain safe.

If you see a camera that is not in the database then you can report it using CamerAlert. This feature can also be used to change information about a camera already in the database i.e. changing speed or direction information.

Available now in the Google Market, 59p with a single free database download. Further updates available on subscription at our standard rates.

The CamerAlert for Android User-Guide is available here.

Got it!

Hope it's worth the 59p... ;-)

Where does this map come from? Are you assuming that the user is using Google Maps/Navigation? If so, do you require a 3G/data connection?

I use NDrive on my Android phone - will CamerAlert integrate with it?

Also: I assume from the follow-up comment that this is a chargeable application. Even at 59p, that should have been mentioned in the News article.

It's the Google Map, it's installed on every Android Phone. We access the map data via Google's API.

You need a data connection to use the map, but you can switch to List mode if you prefer not to, for whatever reason.

It will run as another app, so you can have NDrive in the foreground and still hear the Cameralert alerts. But it is a standalone app, it does not 'integrate' with any other app.

That was an error on my part.

Hmm - if you think that the "Free"/"Paid For" issue is of concern to users, just look at the feedback received in the Android App Market when an application goes from "Free" to "Free but Ad Supported"!

Anyway, according to xe.com, US$0.93 now converts to 58.1p, so I want to know what Darren is doing with that extra 0.9p :-)

You may want to address that question to Google, if I'm benefitting from it I'm not seeing the evidence!

regarding 'integration' the Android version differs somewhat to the iPhone version with alerts.

whatever app you are running in the foreground you will get a red banner pop-up showing the camera details along with the audio alert.

if you have overspeed warnings set up (Menu / Settings / Advanced settings / Overspeed warnings) then you will get a sound repeated if you are over the speed on approach AND a big speed limit icon popping up in front of whatever app you are running so even if you miss the audio you will still know the speed limit of the camera you are approaching.

Nice app Gents, well done (although I had to get a bank loan, for the 59p!!!!) ;-)

Anyway, being serious. Nice app, Thanks. Took it for a run today, and found that it's a case of EITHER seeing my onboard (downloaded Google) maps, or seeing the CamerAlert, with warnings, maps but NOT both. This has been confirmed from what I have read on the above postings (correct me if I'm wrong?).

So, there is NO way to overlay my navigation maps with the speed camera data, is there?? Maybe this is something you're working on, or it simply isn't possible??

Maybe you'll correct my thoughts?

Cheers guys, and thanks again for a nice product..

Simply not possible, we cannot integrate with another app in that way. But as MaFt has said, you will get a red banner pop-up showing camera details together with the audio alert even if CamerAlert is running in the background.

The AppBrain Android Market says there is an Update for CamerAlert for my Device, [re this post].

So I have to ask similar to what I asked:- Here, do I install over the top, also there should be no need for me to select Unknown sources in applications because the app will [is now Known] be from the Market ? Embarassed

With regards
Take Care
