Mike. Thanks for the reply. Which folder does this .meta.dct appear in? Is it in the Europe map folder itself or one of the 50 or so others?

It will (should) be inside the map folder but I'm still thinking it's the SD card itself. |

Mike. I have found the following file in the SD card Europe map file:
"Europe-2GB-165.meta.dct"
I presume this is the one you are referring to. The card is a class 6 so should be OK from that point of view.
I am wondering if the advice I was given originally by TT support to delete everything from the card and then install just the Europe map folder and the ttgo.bif file was correct. The only other folders on the card are an empty map folder and statdata folder which contains a 1kb file disallowtrip.dat.
Do I need any other folders or files to run the TT from the card or does it use the data on the internal memory to operate the rest of the system?
franb. The card may be faulty, but I used to be able to see both the internal and card copies of the map on the TT before the latest map download, and I can see the card in My Computer and in Home. Surely if it was duff it wouldn't show in either of these places?

Not neccesarily. I've just had 2 4Gb Class 4 MicroSDHC cards where my PC & TTHome could see both internal and card maps but couldn't see the card map in "switch maps" like you. Tried a different map in a different (old ONE XL) device and card turned out to be duff after all even thougfh you could read/write to it; TT just didn't like them.
Try it in something else just to elliminate this possibility. |

My problem is I only have phone (Nokia 6300) that will take this type of card and I am not sure if it can cope with 4gb cards and even if it does what will I be able to see with it?

To what level did you format the card?
FAT32?
What cluster size did you use?
16k or default allocation. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

Wazza_G The card was initialised as per the instructions in Home. so I am not sure of the answer to your question.

I'd use Windows to format the card, that's what I did each time it came up with errors, before starting again.
IIRC I formatted it to FAT32 & 16kilobyte clusters and it's been working since. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

Following TT support advice I have now downloaded the latest Europe north map version on to the device. Now I get the message "No maps found." When I check in My Computer and Home the New Europe north map folder is shown on both. It seems whenever I download a new map it is installed on to the appropriate memory but won't show up on the device. So now I have two new map downloads which I cannot see or use on the device. I feel like going back to the original set up and forgetting about these latest maps, it is not worth the aggro.

Yes, they will read them, and update them, but you cannot install a larger than 2Gb map file onto them while in the TomTom device. Thus to get the full Europe map installed on a 740 you need to have a separate reader, and have copied all the files to have it recognised. |
NOT TRUE!

I'm not sure if I've missed it in the four pages of replies (as there seem to be two people's questions running simultaneously) but has anyone mentioned running the "ClearFlash" tool yet?
TT often suggest using it when you get "No maps found" errors.

Andy_P. As a result of your suggestion I read the TT questions section you highlighted and came across a question about applications. It turns out that the maps may not work if the application is older than them. So I downloaded the latest application and now I can see both the internal map and the one on the card. So at last it seems I have managed to solve this with the help of your self and other people on the forum. Many thanks to all who contributed over the last few weeks.
Now all I have to do is install the cameras and voices.
