|

Hi,
I recently aquired a Tomtom 920t pretty cheap, however, once connected to Home i found that the satnav had never been updated. It was still running with an old application and v710.1576 map. So after an evening of downloading and everthing was up to date. But on a recent journey i plugged in the traffic aerial and got the message on the screen - "Your RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver cannot be used in conjunction with the current map" And on the main screen i get a grey circle with a red cross through it. (It was working fine albeit slow and using an old map prior to downloading new info)
Can anyone shed any light on what has happened.
The RDS-TMC is version no: 4V00.083
Many thanks. _________________ Tomtom 920t

Where did you get the 920 from? And what map have you just updated? _________________ David |

The problem is the rds-tmc antenna that works in North America and on North American maps (with app 8.351) is NOT compatible with the European model that (obviously) only works with the Western_Europe maps.
If you switch maps to NA, does it give the error? _________________ David |

Yep, it works with the American maps, after trailing through this forum i have concluded that the RDS-TMS receiver is indeed for the american market and what i require is 4v00.013 (european) and not 4v00.083 (america) as what came with the device.
Can anyone confirm please and if so is there anyone here selling the 4v00.013 version.
Thanks |

v8.351 works with the rds-tmc receiver with the usb connection, it is amplified by connecting to the car charger then to the device. The part number is in my signature. There can be confusion when ordering as the part number on the box refers to the actual box not the contents. I bought from a picture on amazon who redirected my order to a German seller. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I've got the same problem with a UK bought 720 so it's nothing to do with foreign imports.
It worked ok with Western Europe maps but the last update wouldn't fit onto my 720 ( not enough space) so I installed the Europe Northern map & that's when the RDS stopped working. |

Can you have a look in your Northern Europe map folder using Windows Explorer locate the following files and can you report back what file size they are:
tmccodes.dat
traffic.dat
It has been knows for these to be sized at zero Kb on some updates thus rendering the RDS system useless, if they are zero it should be fairly easy to resolve - Mike |

Mike,
The same happened to me after an update from Western Europe map to the current map installed.
In my Europe_West map folder the:
tmccodes icon shows 3.72MB &
traffic 75bytes

Hi Mike,
I've now installed the latest Western Europe map onto an SD card & the files are as follows:
tmccodes.dat = 6.38MB
traffic.dat = 90bytes
The RDS doesn't work with this update either!! |
