decissions decissions.
story so far.
bought the oriiginal go when they were first released many moons ago.
then upgraded to the 910 as wanted the usa maps as well but sods law not been back to america as none of my mates have got any money and im certainly not paying for them will get there one day though.
anyway. had a few problems since day 1 which is still ongoing with the 910
anything upto 5 minutes before it picks up a signal and very very slow movement of maps and not just in built up areas of london. was helped out by this great forum and tried all the different advice but sadly didnt help.
so im thinking of upgrading again but with so many to chose from im stuck.
i dont do a lot of motorway driving, maybe 3 or 4 times a year.
so what ive seen so far...
the new go 550,750 or 950 live or the xl2 uk iq routes which was advertised on qvc ( ) for £129.99 last night
just for uk maps which would be better. 550 or the xl2 uk iq
also looking on the tt website i see theres xxl iq and xl live iq
ARGHH! so many to chose from.
yes one day i will need the usa maps but for the price difference ill just use the old 910 for that.
with only 20 quid difference between 550 & 750 id most prob go for 750
so this is it, go live or the xl/xxl
any advice would be greatly appreciated from a confused DJ.com |

Given your alternatives, you should perhaps also consider the XL IQ Live model. Of all the problems I've seen described about Live services the XL IQ Live seems to come off best. Your first decision though is do you want Live services? |

I wouldn't bother with the XL2 though as it's got the reduced (simplified) menu structure like the Start device.
Are the Live services of interest and are you prepared to pay £8 per month subscription, if not I wouldn't bother with a Live device.
If Live services are of use to you then the x50 or XL IQ Live are worth considering, otherwise try to source an XL IQ as thats a cracking device even though it has no "bells and whistles" (Some would say this is why the device works so well) - Mike |

edit:

I wouldn't bother with a TT for bluetooth handsfree - get a dedicated car kit as since the x20 range it has been a bit hit and miss.
If you don't need LIVE then go for a XL IQ or a XXL. |

The 910 was very good for hands free calls even though you couldn't play the phone call through the car speakers without hacking the device pre Navcore 6,51
These days the bluetooth support for handsfree on the TomTom devices isn't very good with dropped calls, having to reset the device every few days to get it to work and having to put up with poor sound quality via the built in speaker.
I gave up quite a while ago and these days use the iO-Play bluetooth kit in my own car for handsfree conversations which works very well indeed (I also know AndyVaughan uses the same kit in his car along with quite a few others on this forum). At a cost of around £65 if you shop around and can fit it yourself, its well worth the outlay IMHO, combine this with something like the XL IQ and you will have a decent set-up - Mike |

Couldn't agree more. The only thing that lets down the XL IQ and XL LIVE is the lack of TTS.
The XL IQ2 has TTS, but the awful 'Fisher Price' menu from the Start.
Go for a dedicated handsfree and a XL IQ if the lack of TTS doesn't bother you. If you need TTS then shop around for a 730 (if you can still find one) if you don't need LIVE services.
I like the look of the XXL with the even larger screen, hope TT release a XXL LIVE2 with TTS support - it woud be my perfect device. |

3 months later and ive still not got a new one yet :D
could you give some advice on the difference between the live service and the RDS-TMC service which is a one off payment instead of the monthly charge. ill be lucky if i will use it more than 4 or 5 times a year so the monthly charge for live would be a waste of time.
as mentioned above the refurb 730 is £149 but with none available but the 930 is only £20 more and available. would this be a better idea as it has everything i need
bluetooth
4gb hard drive
american maps
advanced lane guidance
IQ routes
also is it worth getting the RDS-TMC as well or not bother.
thanks once again for all your advise so far.

These days make sure you get one with memory cards. The new full Europe map, for example, has outgrown everything else and now has this awful 'zone' breakup that you can't change on the road.
The 730 and the 930 both have cards, but stay away from One, XL, XXL, etc.

thanks Richard.
i know what you mean as the 910 has 20gb space and 930 has 4gb but with the option of the extra card.
any ideas if the RDS-TMC is any good to add to it.
think im almost sold. |

RDS-TMC will go with it OK. It's not as good as HD Traffic on the Live devices, but it will suffice. _________________ Dennis
