Nothing is impossible but with the design decisions on Windows Phone 7 Microsoft have painted themselves into a very small corner. We will most definitely not develop anything on Silverlight. _________________ Lutz

you seem to be confusing mobile data signal and satellite (gps) signal.
the grey grid simply means you have not got a mobile data signal, or it is too poor to manage to download the map tiles. this has nothing to do with gps signal. the app will still function without a data connection but you will not, obviously, be able to download the map tiles!
also, when you say "the speed readout [is] wrong" - do you mean it shows lower than your car speedo? if so then this is normal. car speedo's are set to over-read the current speed - sometimes by as much as 10% so on a motorway if your car speedo says 70 you are likely to be doing around 65 - which is what the app would show.
do you get the speed discrepancies all the time? or have you only ever looked at the speed when you notice the map hasn't loaded?

Hi
Next time it happens ,i'll take a look at the mobile signal to see whats happening with that.
the issues with the speedo is that the reading locks up and will display say 55when I am doing 80 (not car speedo calibration related).
strangly enough, i had better results from the app when i turned off auto zoom and show further ahead function. less "glitchyness" and did not lock up.
I have a 300mile round trip today, so will test again

Well, I can always claim that I misquoted myself. _________________ Lutz

I have had to reinstall the app 4 times now on my Iphone 3Gs. 32GB version not jailbroken. It works fine for a while but then it decides not to restart and quits back to the apps screen after the initial load screen.
Having subscribed to the database I am beginning to fear I have made a bit of a mistake with this one.
Each time I reinstall I reboot the Iphone before using the App. Is there a permanent solution for this yet please ? |

Thank you. The upcoming service release is fixing the issues you reported. We'll submit it to Apple asap. _________________ Lutz

|
|
Sorry have looked at info on App and support thread and have seen mention of use abroad but no mention of need to use different database (as I currently do when updating my Garmin SatNav when driving in France). Am I right in thinking that the CamerAlert database covers not only UK but France etc all ready and there is no need to download Country 'specific' files in preparation of driving abroad ? Thank you.

Hi Rich,
The database does indeed cover the whole world. When you download you get all of our data and you do not have to set up the country that you are traveling to.
Make sure that you turn data roaming off so that you dont get hit with extra data charges. _________________ Mike Barrett |

this sounds like you use cached maps and do not have a data connection (or have it disabled). You can use the app in "no maps" mode, or enable your data connection (Warning - this may cost you money) _________________ Lutz

your right i don't have a data connection because its not free on my contract so i don't use it.
i find it difficult to use the no map mode, is there anyway of downloading all the maps at home using my wi-fi connection so the app doesn't need to download anything when in use?
thanks. |

Unfortunately that is not possible. Google Maps (which we use as our map source) does only work in online mode. The cache isn't big enough to cover larger map chunks. _________________ Lutz

|
|
First post, so hope this is the right place!
I've been using Cameralert since Feb this year with no problems and think it is great. However, since updating the iphone to iOS 4 and Cameralert to v1.1 I've been experiencing regular crashes. The app seems to run for about 10-20 minutes before I see one of the following problems ...
- app closes back to iPhone home screen
- app hangs with the next camera displayed but the seconds countdown and map are frozen. Voice warning is distorted
- iPhone displays a timer cirlce and I have to reboot the phone completely
- iPhone goes to lock screen (even though prevent standby is on) - app may or may not be running when I slide to unlock.
I've noticed crashes seem to happen just as I approach a camera and that the sound warning is distorted. I've found turning the sound alerts off appears to extend the period between crashes.
I've tried deleting the app and resinstalling.
16GB iPhone 3G running iOS 4. |
