We're a long way off that! That is by no means an easy task!

Oh, I appreciate that! Just thought I would make the offer.

I beta tested Telmap, but they dropped the N82 and have no plans for any Samsung devices, so they say, meaning that there are limited alternatives. From what I have read of CamerAlert, I want it too....

the iphone is relatively 'simple' in that all iphone apps will run on them. think of it as a games console - you don't need to check the minimum or recommended specs; if it's available for iphone it will work.

android, winmob and symbian are very different - more like a traditional operating system; it comes on massively different hardware and, as such, is harder to program for.

this is one of the reasons why iphone platform was chosen first - not because of market share but for 'ease' of programming and distribution.

It's true the Phone is a much simpler OS than the others and you're right to posit that as the reason for its current success. Lack of things like multitasking will ultimately hamper it in this market though.

It is equally true that the plethora of devices put out by Nokia make targeting a devices or devices for development difficult. You have to identify the installed user base and develop for those first.

Depending on what your iPhone app was written in you can port the code to a symbian development environment as a starter.

I thought Mobile XT had been discontinued after the version for S60 V3?

I don't know about it being discontinued, I got my 5800 last year and could see that Garmin XT ran on the application. Had a few teething problems trying to get it installed but a quick email to Garmin solved the problem.

According to their website it is. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11413

However the last update was in April 2009 so maybe you purchased it before then?

I've bought a copy off an independent software vendor and installed it. Seems to work very well but could do with better audio alerts for speed cameras. I use my in car navigation, which ahas in in-dash display and have the E71 on a Brodit mount by the central console and just use ift for audible camera allerts so really want something that gives me verbal warnings with the speed limit in the warning.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that the XT had been finished. Perhaps thay want us all to start using the new Nuvi Phone (hope I don't get criticised)

They are still are supporting it insofar as I was able to download a database update. I've also downloaded custom voices and images for the PGPSW database and uploaded them to Mobile XT with POI Loader. I think it might meet my needs for now although I'm not sure if Garmin Mobile XT only warns of cameras in the direction of travel if you're not following a route and I could sure do with the average speed check between specs that the PGPSW app features.

Would love to have proper PGPWS speed cameras for my Nokia 5800. Have not managed to get the speed cam to work yet...

That's a bummer. I've been looking at the 5800, especially the Navigator version due for release soon. Mind you, the N900 looks very nice but, as that's Maemo, it will probably take some time before that has any suuport on here.
