Hi, not sure if this should come under speed cameras, or general topic, or not to be here at all, but while driving into Manchester and coming to the end of the M602 I saw one of these Smart Car police cars with a camera sticking out of the roof, which to be honest, scared the hell out of me.
Although I was not speeding, or playing with my phone, or anything else dangerous, I felt like I had done something wrong, and waited 14 days hoping nothing was going to drop through my letterbox.
I just wonder if anyone has had any experience with these cars where they have received a summons of any kind, and if they are capable of not measuring the speed of a car, as does not appear to be the case at the moment.
Finally, should I make a submission as nothing has been recorded on the database for this location, although this may not be a speed camera issue so maybe should not be submitted.
I just wonder though, how long it takes before these cars ARE capable of detecting a cars speed, and a lot less noticeable than a cashvan, sorry camera van.........

It's Interesting to hear you say this experience "scared the hell out of you". I often feel the same way when passing speed detector vans. Surely this must effect our driving concentration and road safety going into a blind panic every time we pass these so called road safety vehicles? _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

Yeah, I'm exactly the same when driving past speed camera vans, police radar traps, and any other traffic enforcement cameras.
I'm glad to hear I'm not on my own in that these things make me feel like I'm a criminal.
I am also paranoid as I have had my licence endorsed twice in the last five years for accidentally 'creeping' over the speed limit by a few mph. Both occasions have been by well hidden cashvans........ now thats another debate to be had altogether......

To which their standard, 'stock' answer is "If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to fear".
Well I OBJECT to having their cameras poked up my nose everywhere I go.
You can see how the camera in that report has the resolution to see what passengers are doing too and we've all heard stories of bored operators of CCTV systems turning their cameras to look through windows. There are already lowest-common-denominator TV shows detailing "the crazy things people do, caught on CCTV".
Merseyside and Strathclyde, have already deployed remote-controlled aircraft in spy-in-the-sky operations and last week Kent police announced they are to start using BAE military "drone" spy-planes to keep us all in check as well.
I despair of this country and the passivity of its people. Most other European countries wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting this amount of intrusion passed into law.
I'll stop now as I usually get told I'm going off-topic in these cases, but just look at SPECS cameras..... It was blindingly obvious when they were first brought in, that they would be developed and developed until they could cover the entire road network, and we're seeing the next steps of that process now.
If the technology is available, our "masters" WILL use it.
