Mike Alder and other posters....thanks for this thread. I've just managed to change the battery in a GO 720 successfully and all working and its charging now.
The extra tips on 4th screw on board(!) and WD40 to remove battery helped and battery removal was easy. A piece of paper towel is good to sponge excess WD40 from the board and an alcohol wipe to clean it before fitting battery. I also found use of tweezers helps and removal of speaker connector (which is only a plug) makes matters easier. |

Finally got my TT720 back after 7 weeks with my insurers repairers & Tom Tom; I'm sure issue was failing battery so I guess I'll be OK for another 18mths perhaps.
Fortunately my cr card issuer gives 3 domestic items a year free extended warranty; so on the basis of this thread, they'll be getting another claim before policy expires!!
One thing I notice that on my laptops it only shows as a drive number and without TT icon ; think there's a solution to that here somewhere on this board.
I can see a TT icon in files though. _________________ Gel

You need a file called "autorun.inf on the root of the drive.
The contents of mine look like this:
Quote: | [autorun]
action=Run TomTom HOME
open=InstallTomTomHOME.exe
label=TomTom 940
icon=tomtom.ico
[DeviceInstall]
#This section is empty; autorun will not install device drivers to your PC. |
In addition, I made a different icon for the SD card, so I have a modified autorun.inf on the card itself, with a different text label and a pointer to a different icon:
Quote: | [autorun]
#action=Run TomTom HOME
#open=InstallTomTomHOME.exe
label=TomTom 940 SD card
icon=TT_SD.ico
[DeviceInstall]
#This section is empty; autorun will not install device drivers to your PC. |

Thanks mikealder and all other posters in this thread - just changed the battery in my 720 without too much hastle- WD40 to softed the battery glue was brilliant. Only trouble was the tiny little clips to retain the ribbon cable - broke one before I got the knack but hopefully it will stay in with the tape.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Glad to hear you got it swapped out and working, the ribbon cable connectors are very fiddly but in practice they only require a very small amount of pressure to release the catch then the cable can be extracted from the slot.
The Brown retention platic needs to stay in place and shouldn't be removed from the socket, the way this thread is growing I am wondering if its worth shooting a video of how to do it as TomTom certainly have no interest in replacing the batteries and my 720 still needs swapping out as does a mates 730 that I will be "operating on" next week! so I have plenty of subject material - Mike |

Thanks Mike for the battery replacement walkthrough. Changed mine in ten minutes. that glue on the battery is a bit of an issue, rather like the proverbial and the blanket. The ribbon clip ended up coming away from the connection housing but with a little perseverance i got it back in place and thankfully all appears to be working as it should. Thanks again. |

The battery on my GO920 started failing 2 months ago. It would only last 1-2 minutes without power connected. I followed this thread, but decided that a battery failing after just 18 months is not acceptable.
I raised a question with TT support online. After a few obvious questions such as "is there a charging light?" they sent me an RMA number and a box arrived in the post. I returned the GO920 last friday, with a copy of my receipt in the box.
Today, a replacement unit arrived. OK, it's a refurbished unit and was set up for Spain, but after doing the usual upgrades of OS and maps, it is almost as good as new. TT even allowed me to transfer the replacement to my account and I could download the latest map..
So those of you who feel they are not happy in rebuilding your PND, and it's only 18 months old, don't give up on TT support.
And yes, I did get the e-mail saying there could be a charge for the repair, but in the end, no charge.... Infact I did not even have to buy a replacement battery, and shipping was free. _________________ Steveee

Just replaced the battery on my 720, all back together working and back to 4 hours life on one charge. The old battery came away very easily, didn't appear to to be retained by adhesive but by a rectangular very thin double sided pad. (See attached Picture)
I used the Gap Opener Plastic Tool supplied by Brodit with their Proclips pushed in from the right hand side of the battery and it lifted it straight off the circuit board. New one secured with thin double sided tape.
The new battery was obtained from SuperEtrader.co.uk, part number 11813-10951 Battery 1300mAh, Cost £8.17 inc Vat and 0.01p for postage.

Thanks for that, having the part number in front of me finally spurred me into actually getting on for my 720.
Unfortunately that site seems broken this morning.
I tried a search for the part number, but the search feature couldn't find it.
So I waded through the main site and found the page of all the TomTom batteries (which is HERE)
But although it let me add the battery to my shopping basket (and said there was one item in it), when I went to checkout, it kept saying my basket was empty.
Nothing I could do seemed to work. |

Perhaps just a temporary problem, have used them a couple of times now for various Phone batteries including one for the O2 XDA Orbit.
It may be that you have to register/create an account first.
Just tried it and it allowed me to go right through to the final payment Page. _________________ Graham.
