PDAs are, indeed, VERY widely available - and double up as mobile phones as well. Windows mobile version 6.1 and soon version 7, have ensured this is an ongoing thing, by the way: a good percentage of mobile phones are winmob equipped, WITH GPS units built in, these days, so there y'go - all providers seem to be offering PDA versions of too, so I dunno how you missed that Smile

A lot of poeple seem to be confusing the PDA with the Smartphone, they are two diiferent objects, i.e PDAs with small screens, Smartphones are usually the ones with small screens, PDAs usually have 3" screens and no phone capability, can we please differentiate between PDAs and smartphones

Sorry G1LIW, must have been writing at same time, ageed they share the same OS but they are still different animals but people seem to put the same failings or atributes to both and it doesnt work that way.

I was under the impression that a smartphone did not possess a touch-screen interface, and a PDA had that capability?

Many PDA Phones out there have touchscreen capability - HP iPAQ messenger series, HTC Touch series, etc, to name a couple off the top of me head.

An example of a smartphone would be the orange C600 (HTC Tornado series), which is operated from the alphanumerical keypad and thumbstick.

That's how I've learned to differentiate between 'em, anyhow - sound good?

Must admit the only smartphones i have been involved in i.e. the early orange one and curently a N95 would appear that way but i have not had much experience to categorize them that way, but lately posters seem to appear to class them all as PDAs.

Touch screen = PDA Based Phone
Non Touch Screen = Smart Phone
Nokia devices = Symbian Phone

Thats how I always differentiate between the different types, in addition to the above don't forget the Apple iFone and Google Android based devices. There was also supposed to be a phone from Garmin but its been put back countless times, if it launches now it will be way out of date compared to the others.

Out of all the different devices above only the PDA based phones can use the TTN7 application, and only a small handfull of specific devices out of the hundreds that have been made - Mike

Too little too late imho. I've loved TomTom since TT3 days but they are a year too late with this TT7 offering.

I've transfered my TT6 licence to my PDA Mobile and it does me fine for when I need to use POIs that are not available on my Honda Manufacturers System.

No money coming from here sorry even with the massive £8 voucher they sent me.

How nice of TomTom. Absolutely no use for my iPAQ as it runs WM2003SE.
Cannot even get new maps.
Becasue I have lotts of other stuff on my SD card, TT Home crashes every time about using it.
Eventually I will have to spend on a new program and it is hard to think of a reason for it to be TomTom.

Sorry TomTom - far too late. I've migrated to Garmin.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know what release number this is? Is it the same as was released on the HTC phones some time ago or have they updated it?

regards

Odd, just done a search for PDAs and they still seem to be widely available, specifically the Asus a696 wich still seems to be current on the Asus website, I personally find the true PDA to be a worthwhile peice of allround equipment, I think the anger can be justified when companies like Tomtom have built up their business on the back of the PDA market and then suddenly dumped them virtually without warning.

Perhaps I should modify my statement regarding availability of PDAs.

I went into PC World at Huddersfield, and they no longer stock PDA's of any kind. Ths same story applies at Comet.
Thanks for the Asus tip. I have always used HP PDAs, but the Asus spec looks satisfactory, so I may well urchase one.

The Lg cookie is a touch screen and I would certainly not classify it either a smartphone or a PDA but just plain touch screen phone with a big screen, in view of the emerging touch screen market on phones it would seem your classification is suddenly disapearing.
