Hello mike,
thx for the fast answer.
I suppose there is no way to downgrade the map as well?
It seems to me I have a hopeless case on my desk - sigh.
I think I will try to return the TomTom to the dealer and start looking for a greater model (with built-in itn) or an older used 3rd editon TomTom one.
Edit says:
I just made another attempt: I've deleted the Map from the TomTom and rebooted it. Naturally it complains a missing map. Now I've copied 7.166 on the TomTom again. If the map is the reason for the hang up it should reboot fine and continue complaining about the missing map. But it should be a running 7.166 which would be a first success.
But alas - it still hangs up. Something else doesn't fit. The bootloader?
Another edit:
Just came back from my TomTom dealer. He took it back and after deciding which bigger modell I preferer I'll take it. Easy solution

Does anybody know about whether v7.903 has the itinerary function and works with the ONE 3rd ed?
That firmware is supposed to be able to use v8 maps. |

Kind of difficult to say...
Looking back at my notes, v7.900 was intended for the ONE 3rd edition, but the rapidly produced corrections to it (v7.902 and 7.903) weren't (according to TT).
There weren't many differences between these versions, so maybe v7.900 would be a better bet
TT say they will all work with v8 maps
Assuming the itinerary function is still there but hidden (that happened in v7.101) you will still need the custom menu as described in Mike A's instructions.
However, if you re already running a v8 software, you might need to go back via v7.166 as per the discussion earlier in this topic. |

Are any 7.9x versions available anywhere for download? 7.903 is the current version for the ONE 2nd ed., I think. |

Before you mess around with the One Third Edition, what version is your map? tap the sat strength meter (lower right) followed by the version box, the resultant screen contains information about the device and the map.
If its a v8xx map there is no point trying to roll back to v7 software as it simply won't work, when supplied new the One 3rd edition was sold with v705 maps - Mike |

v7.900, v7.902 and v7.903 *do* work with v8 maps (according to TomTom).
The question is do they all work on a 3rd Edition or just 7.900? |

Mark
Making an itinerary rout via your TT unit can be very tedious. If you haven’t already done so you might consider D/L the Tyre program to make you route on your PC and then save the file to your TT itinerary folder.
You can get the Tyre program here: http://www.tyre.tk/
Or another program that works with Google maps and the one I personally prefere is Houghi with this one you simply make your route in Goggle maps my putting in your start and finish points and then just click on route with your mouse and drag it where you want it to go. ( just make sure you zoom in so that when you drop the route it is in the correct lane if it is a divided highway)
Once you have your route finished click on the link button {top right on Google map page} and copy the link then open the Houghi page and past the link then just click submit ouery then save the file to your TT itinerary folder.
The Houghi site is here : http://www.houghi.org/tomtom/
Hopefully this is helpfull to you I make a 3600 Kl trip every spring and fall traveling from eastern Canada to Florida and I like to very my routs so I find these programs are helpfull.

You cannot use Itinerary planning on a new One Third Edition, when the device was first launched it was possible but between launch date and now there have been various software updates and map releases, your device will have a map that is too new to run the v7,101 Navcore that did let you have Itinerary planning by running a custom menu.
As soon as TomTom realised it was possible to run Itinerary on this hardware the next software update killed the option fully and AFAIK its not been possible to do since - Mike |
