|
|
Hi All,
ITIS are proud to launch a free mobile traffic information application for any Symbian S60v3 mobile phone that has GPS built in to it. Most of you will know of ITIS for its RDS-TMC service here in the UK, of which there is a healthy discussion forum here on pocketgpsworld.com.
Users can download the application and UK map pack from our new developer zone ;
http://devzone.itisholdings.com/mobileclient
Once users have installed the application and a "map-pack", the client sends the ITIS traffic server its GPS coorindates, and in return the server sends back traffic information for the surrounding area.
The anonymous GPS Data we collate from the handsets is added to the existing fleet data of around 80'000 unique vehicles per day, which is then fused with journalistic data provided by the "trafficlink" arm of ITIS. For more on ITIS and how its "trafficscience" technology works, please visit www.itisholdings.com
We have been running this application in beta for 12 months now, and we're very pleased with the final product . If you have any feedback, good or bad, please let me know !
regards,

Darren -
OK, this is the "Pocket GPS World Forum Index - Windows Mobile - Pocket PC/Smartphone" forum, right?
Thread title reads "Free UK traffic info to Symbian Mobile Phones" (emphasis added).
Just me being picky ;) _________________ Roger, G1LIW

Ah, well it is for Symbian which is a smartphone?
As we don't have a forum area for Symbian now might be a good time to rename this forum to PDA/Smartphone.
In fact no time like the present so it is now renamed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Mike, considering how many PPC based phones are around (OK I have a selfish interest as that's the only phone type I use) - have you any plans to extend this application out the MS Mobile devices? - Mike |

We are seriously considering porting the Symbian application to blackberry and Windows mobile, but we are unsure of the market potential right now, so this is still in discussion.
If we get a lot of feedback from end users of these platforms who want the application, this may persuade us to port it !

ok iPhone we're not touching as there is an independent application coming out from the keepmoving.co.uk team, which is looking pretty good I can tell you. The symbian app will either go direct to blackberry or windows mobile.

Count me in should you need someone to try any future PPC version, either touch screen or the more troublesome MS SmartPhone without the touch screen capability - Mike |

Any reason why it won't work with a phone supporting an external BT GPS unit (eg Nokia E65)? |

Hi nemgreen,
We were not able to source external bluetooth GPS receivers to test, but it could possibly work. Give it a try and let us know how you get on !

If anyone is thinking of comparing this and tomtom plus traffic simultaneously – it isn’t possible using the *same phone* as the actual data connection used for the Itis app and the tomtom plus are not the same as far as the phone is concerned (even if the APN is) and whichever you try and use second won’t be able to connect.
Just in case anyone was gonna try! |
