|
|
Every time I do an update on TomTom home my go 520 goes into endless reboots, and does not respond to the power button, even reset seems to work initially, but then goes on to the endless reboot, but when I remove the memory card it works fine, so I have to format the memory card and start again to use the memory card again, this has happened twice, so now I avoid doing updates from TomTom home, has anyone else had the same problem? |

What spec memory card are you using and have you used it before? |

It's a 4gig sdhc Integral card. Not used before. I kept a copy on a 2gig sd card San Disk. which seems to work ok, but I am bit wary about doing an update with that. |

Do a backup right now - that is, copy everything from the working SanDisk card to your PC hard disk, using Windows Explorer. Identify it so that you know it's today's backup. Then go for the updates using the 2GB card. Sounds a bit like you may have a slow 4GB card and with a copy of the working card on your PC, it's no problem having a go at updating the 2GB card, because if it goes wrong, you can recover by erasing it and copying the original back again. _________________ Dennis

I tried that, but the same thing happened again, I made sure I safely removed the device from the computer as well, everything worked fine on previous updates, but not this latest one. |

Might it still be a corrupted download?
Unfortunately Home will not give you a fresh download of the program files if it sees one already in it's download cache on your PC, so you will keep installing the same corrupted version..
Here's how to FORCE Home to download a new copy of the latest software....
1. Make a full backup with Windows Explorer. See another topic in this section for instructions.
2. With Explorer, DELETE all the LOOSE files on on the TT (i.e the ones that are NOT in any folders). DO NOT delete any folders!
3. Again with Explorer, DELETE the contents of the "program" folder in Home's download cache. Normally it is in "C:\Documents and Settings\iusername\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\program", but the path may be different on your machine. You can check the location by looking in Home itself on the Tools menu/ Home Preferences/Folder locations)
4. Connect TT to computer and run Home.
5. Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install them, if not:-
6. Click "Update my TomTom - wait to see what it offers you.
7. Select the Application update and wait for it to install.
8. Click on 'Device - Disconnect Device', wait for it to re-boot and ask if you want to connect to the computer, select "No" and when you see the normal navigation screen, turn off and disconnect. |

Tried that still made no difference, bought a new sd card with maps and application already on it version 8.35 and 8.25 maps then I downloaded speed cameras that seemed to work okay, but then I downloaded poi's and it went into endless reboots again, accessed it on Home everything seemed normal, but when I disconnected from pc it went into endless reboot again, so I deleted the poi's but has made no difference even deleting mapsettings.config had no effect. Baffled and frustrated.

I found I had copies of copies inside folders within folders within folders, then I found .csv files and TLV files mixed in with poi ov2 files and fragmented dat files as well, anyway when I deleted these, I got my maps back but the Application went right back from version 8.010 to 7.48 so another mystery, at least I've got my 520 working again.
