|
|
On a recent trip my tomtoms battery went flat.
Charged it up, but now have no sound.
Checked the "sound off" button, also did a voice test but still no sound, even the start up sound.
However, if I remove the memory card, then replace it, I get the start up sound, (only when I remove and replace the card), but nothing else.
The reset button does'nt work, any small pin I put in it just goes right up inside the tomtom.
Thanks in advance for any help.

How about something thicker than a pin, like a paperclip for resetting? _________________ David |

The "Ones" have a bit of a reputation for this.
Something to check.... If you plug headphones into the line out socket, can you hear the audio then?
Take a look at THIS topic. Shows you're not alone, but apart from re-installing software, it doesn't give a definite fix.
Might help to narrow things down if you can say which version of One it is too.... (Original, new edition, 3rd edition, latest 2008 model (with easyport mount)) |

Thanks for replies.
Looked at linked forum, yes, others with same problem but no fix.
It is TTone, about 4 years old.
Don't laugh, but what I thought was the reset button, was the head phone socket.
I have no head phones, so can't check if it works with them.
I've tried re-seting it, different lengths of time, but still no joy.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks

Have you tried re-installing the last full Back-Up that you took? |

Thanks

Find a teenager?
Seriously, do you not know anyone with any sort of iPod, walkman, mp3 player? Even someone you see on the bus?
It would help to work out if it is a hardware or software problem.
You may need to switch to "line out" in "Speaker Preferences" if your model has that (somewhere on the last pages of the Change preferences menu) |

I fixed the same problem on a one.
Make a backup of the device via windows with hidden files set to show.
Delete all of the files on the tomtom that are loose. ie not in a folder.
Connect the device to your computer and the home software.
Update your device via home, which should reinstall the firmware you deleted in the second step.
done! |

Thanks for replies.
Tried it with headphones, but not responding to them, guess its where I kept poking objects into the headphone socket thinking it was the reset socket!
Not trying to sound to thick, but never have done a back up or connected TT to my computer.
As its 4 years old, I don't have the lead anymore.
I've taken the card out and put it in my pc, can I do anything with the card that might fix it?
I don't have "speaker preferences" in the change preferences menu.
I did the "reset factory settings" one, but still no joy.
Thanks Again

Everything Larok said can also be done with the SD card plugged directly into a reader on the PC, so that's OK.
For step 1 - To make a backup, just highlight everything on he card and copy and paste it onto somewhere safe on your PC.
For step 2 - Just delete those files on the card that are NOT in a folder LEAVE ALL THE FOLDERS ALONE
For step 3+4 - To reinstall the software you nee to download and install TomTom's "Home" utility from HERE (left-hand link for Windows) |

Thanks again for replies.
I installed Tomtom home ok.
I've put my card into my pc, which reconizes it.
However Tomtom home does'nt seem to reconize it. when I click on "back up and restore" or "update my device" or anythig else, a box comes out saying I have to conect my device to the computer!
All help appreciated!

Tim, Use a mini USB lead to connect the TomTom to the PC with the card inside the device, the correct leads can be purchased from Maplins Here or PC World Here or if you have a digital camera the lead for that should work.
Make sure the USB lead is plugged directly in to the rear of the PC, if you via a hub then all sorts of unknown issues can cause problems.
It is also quite possible the device cannot comunicate with the TomTom Home software if certain files are missing from the device (The TomTom One was invented long before Home was even thought of) - in this case contact Tomom on 0845 161 0009 and they can supply a file to be added to the SD card to make Home see the device and work.
Before you go too far though, with the card in a card reader use Windows Explorer on the PC to copy all the files and folders from the card to the PC, this will create the vital back up you need - Mike |

Hi
Had this problem with 2 one’s. The first one the headphone socket pins was not closing so it was just a matter of closing them up. The other one it was the speller connections needed resoldering dry joint. |

Thanks for replies again, how ever after reading what I have done you guys might want to put me in the "lost cause" bracket!
I managed to find my usb lead and original cd that came with it.
Without first doing a back up, I deleated what I thought was files and not folders.
What I thought was folders (maybe they are?), the yellowish boxes, I left, but deleated the rest.
I tried TT home again, with the usb lead, but still did'nt reconize it.
I put the cd in, and tried to do am back up with this, it went through the motions but then said it could'nt do it.
More worryingly, TT is now not exepting the card.
When I put the card in, it shows the card coming out with a red cross on it!
I guess I must have deleated some thing I should'nt have done.
Any help appreaciated, but fully understand if not.
