With previous versions of maps, the speed limit info for my local area where predominantly correct.
However, with the 825 map, speed limit info is predominantly absent.
Initially, I thought that I might have changed the preference to not showing speed limits until I eventually stumbled across a road displaying a speed limit, albeit an incorrect speed limit.
Has anybody else noticed this? _________________ Andy

Yes, I noticed the lack of speed limits on a route I regularly drive.
I am sure it was there on the 815 map.
TT want us to do all their corrections for them as usual. |

Corrections is one thing, but putting back data that was on previous releases shouldn't be what MapShare is about.
If data is present on an earlier release, it should be fair to expect it still to be present (or corrected) in subsequent releases, but not for it to have been removed. _________________ Andy

Complete guess but it could be because IQ routes is being used more to calculate journeys instead of the road speed limit. Don't see why that should mean taking them away though.
A lot of limits on my journeys were wrong anyway so I ignored them. _________________ Gerry

IQ2 was supported in 815 maps, so on that score I wouldn't expect to see a difference.
Also, if that's the road TT are going down, why not remove all speed limits so they are at least consistent?
Removing stuff piecemeal is just nonsensical _________________ Andy

I don't think they ever used speed limits when calculating journeys, even before IQ routes. Each road had a "time to travel" assigned to it, based on a number of criteria. |

Hmm, I am not sure that experience bears that out. The TT would often take a poor route based on what can only have been average speed on a road type, and cut corners down narrow tracks etc. The new IQ one now takes the sensible routes, knowing that the narrow track, or windy road, is not actually faster than the speed limit might suggest. |

read somewhere from tomtom's website that before iq, calculation is based on 85% of speed limit. i would guess that in the absence of speed limit data, speed limit is based on road type. then iq just adds another factor: average speed. so all these data should be there when available, iq having priority. could it mean that the teleatlas mapping van failed to register the speed limit the 2nd time around and they overwrote the previous data?

Maybe so... but that's still not the same as the speed limit.
AFAIK the "speed limit value" for a road isn't used for anything except the optional speed limit display on screen. |

First trip out today with 825. About 275 miles. I have v810 map running alongside it on a 720 and did not see any difference in the displayed speed limits on both devices.
Personally I consider the speed limit a waste - I'd much prefer TT to get themselves sorted with all the core problems than tart up the screen. I really only want a few things ... Good navigation on accurate maps, Hands free phone pairing and to be able to use the pgpsw speed camera POIs. Anything else is a bonus, but only AFTER they get the basics right. _________________ Dennis

I would generally agree also, but it is occasionally useful to have in the event of a 'senior moment'.
Although I'm far too young to have ever had this happen, there might be a time when you think "this is a xx limit along here, isn't it?" just when repeater signs all seem to take a day off. _________________ Andy

I find the option to be reminded when going over speed limit to be a very important safety feature, as a gentle reminder when driving too fast. To me its more important even than the ability to have safety camera POIs as safety camera warnings only improve safety where safety cameras actually exist. Maybe its my age, but its very easy to get distracted for example by passengers and a gentle reminder helps. I certainly think it is far safer to be reminded in this way than having to constantly check the speedo and take eyes off the road.
I do get the impression that some quite major roads that previously had speed limit data seem to have now lost this data. _________________ TomTom 920T

I believe that with every new map release, some previous data is removed in order to: 1) be able to add the new roads and 2) keep the size of the map such that it still fits the storage size the previous map did.
Previous maps have removed details like rivers and other scenery to keep the map size manageable so maybe removing max speed data was necessary this time. _________________ David |
