Hi all,
First of all hi I'm newly registered here but been reading older posts for since deciding to purchse my Medion MDPPC250. Hope you can help!
Today I've had delivered a Belkin ADSL Modem with Built-In Wireless Router(802.11g).
I have connect this via Cat5 or RJ45 cable to my desktop.
I have also purchased SanDisk Wi-Fi SD card.
I have set up my router.
I have installed the drivers for the SD card.
When I have my card in the Medion it says it connects to the router. But the router does not see it.
Also it displays an IP address the is not in the I'm confused with WPA/WEP etc etc!!
Any help would greatly be appreciated. |

for starters
- put your router into 802.11b mode
- disable all WEP/WPA
- enable the DHCP server in the router
- Make sure the SSID is the same on the router and on the Medion
Then re-insert the SD card into your Medion and see if it gets the IP address
If this works then put your security back up. I do not recommend WEP/WPA, but I do recommend switching off SSID broadcast and MAC address access control for the DHCP server _________________ Lutz

Tried the above but to no avail. It does show an IP address but this address is out side the IP pool range set in the DHCP area of the router?
The wifi card says it is connected but on the routers DHCP client list the Medion is not detected at all.
Also 3 times today the card when removed and replaced in Medion has failed to light the LED. I've had to reinstall the drivers and do a soft reset.
Should it do this or do I have a faulty card? |

If you get an IP address outside the DHCP range then the operation simply timed out. Either your SSID is not correct, or the profile settings are wrong (needs to be infrastructure, not ad-hoc) or the card is indeed faulty. _________________ Lutz

I went to a friends house to see if I could get on his wireless network as he has the same router/modem as me. I had the same problems.
I have decided to contact ebuyer about returning the card for a replacement. |

What was the IP address you got? If it was 169.254.anything.anything, then the card failed to lease an IP address, and you're working with a default address.
Have you got any kind of MAC filtering set up on the router? If so, make sure you include the MAC address of the SDIO Wi-Fi card in the allowed MAC list.

David,
Thanks for your reply. Yes the IP address i got was 169.254.etc.etc.
I am new to all this but I believe I did enter the MAC address. I recall reading a post by SwissTony about that.
I have had a reply from Ebuyer this morning to say that they have tested the card and it is faulty. They are sending me a replacement.
When I receive my replacement what should be my step by step guide what to do? I would really appreciate your help to guide me what to do.
Mark. |

quickly reading through your posts I would say you seem to have done it right the 1st time m8.
Let us know how you get on with ya new card
Hope you got it working ok. Looks like you just had bad luck last time with a faulty card.
By the way I have found sometimes that I have to take the card out of my Medion soft reset then insert the card to get it to pick up my signal whenits been powered off a while.
No biggy but a little hassle. Just a tip.
Cheers

New card has just arrived. Haven't opened it as got to go back to work.
So when I have a play tonight what should my settings be on the Router and on the medion???
At the moment on my router I have:
Security mode: WPA-PSK(no server)
SSID: name_and_name
ESSID Broadcast: Disable
wireless mode: Mixed (11b+11g)
Transmission rate: Fully Automatic
g Nitro: Disable
DHCP server: On
Lease Time: Forever
MAC Address Filtering: Enable
So what should I have on the card settings through the Medion interface:
Such as Security setting (WPA-PSK)?
encryption?
Network key auto or what?
Much appreciate your help people |

Without third party software, I don't think any Pocket PC 2002 or 2003 device supports WPA in any of its flavours. If you have the option to use WPA, use it (WPA-PSK is probably all that's realistic in a home environment; I don't think there's any easy to use and free RADIUS servers for Windows, which rules out full WPA). If you do use WPA-PSK there's a potential vulnerability if the pre-shared key is too short - make it at least 20 characters.
WPA support is one of the things supposedly added to Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition.
Assuming no WPA support, the best you can do is 128 bit WEP. Be aware that when entering WEP keys between devices of different manufacturers, you usually have to do so in hexadecimal, as the coding for alphanumeric entry is non-standard. For added security, put the MAC address of all the wireless cards you use in the wireless access point (or wireless router)'s MAC filter, and turn MAC filtering on to only allow those cards to connect.
Some people will suggest you turn of SSID broadcasts. I find that makes the Zero Configuration client in both Pocket PC 2003 and Windows XP misbehave, and it's of marginal extra value. I leave SSID broadcasts on.
