GPS Warehouse have started shipping some new data cables for Garmin handheld GPS Receivers. A data cable isn't new, Garmin supply most of their handhelds with a 9-pin serial data cable, but what's different about these, is they're USB!!!

Garmin only ship USB cables with their most recent GPS Receivers, all legacy GPS Receivers including current models like eTrex, GPSMap etc only come with a serial 9-pin cable, so that means you then have to purchase a serial to USB adapter, and these can be a nightmare, some don't work with certain PC's, other's don't work with certain applications (like the Belkin ones), a complete nightmare. Not anymore!

Cables are available for the:-
- eTrex Series
- Geko Series
- eMap Series
- GPS II/II+, III/III+, Pilot
- GPS V, 12, 12XL, 38, 40, 45, 45XL, 48
- Street Pilot/Street Pilot III/Street Pilot III Deluxe

What's more, they come in two flavours, one for data and one with power so you can power the handheld when at the desk or when in-car. You'll still be stuck with Garmin's Serial speeds using a USB cable, but most new PC's and laptops don't come equipped with a Serial port, so using one of these native cables will be a whole lot easier!

Is GPS Warehouse the the only company supplying them or are they generally available?

As it presently stands (today) I believe that GPSW are the only company selling them in the UK, but that will change in weeks to come where they will be sold through other retailers (that all depends on which retailers want to stock them though).

Hi all. This is my first post on here but I've read the site for months. It's great and very informative. I've recently bought an Ipaq 2210 and was wondering if I'd be able to use the eTrex data cable to connect my eTrex Vista to it and use Tomtom Navigator. Thanks in advance for any help, Deigy.

Yes, you can but it will have to be a different type of cable. Check out this review which should point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave. I'll have a look where you suggested and see what I can come up with. Cheers again, Deigy.

Hi Dave, I wonder if you could verify if this cable works as someone posted on the Expansys website that this cable worked for their eTrex and Ipaq 2210. Thanks in advance, Deigy.
