|
|
If anyone wants to try Navcore 8.2 as installed on the x40's, it can be downloaded from TomTom's download server at:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/navcore_8.203.9717.go940.cab
It is the version for the 940 but I can confirm that it works fine on my 720. The only problem I encountered was my Favourites seemed to be corrupted. This was fixed by copying MapSettings.cfg from my backup.
Please do a full backup before you try it.
YMMV. |

as a matter of interest, has anyone been offered this update via HOME? I'm not at my home pc at the moment, so I can't check. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |

As the update is intended for the x40's its unlikely anyone will have been offered it yet! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
Always looking for new things, what is this going to change on my 730T? I have downloaded it but wonder how it is installed. I have installed cab files on mobile phones before but not on a GPS unit.
Worth trying or not?
Thanks, my online expert!! :-)

I've not tried it and I'm not going to! Nothing to stop you of course but a full backup first! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Of course but how is it installed? Put it on the hard drive and run it or put it on the SD card? Bit lost.....

Extract the contents of the .cab file and copy to the root of the device manually. _________________ Darren Griffin |

This is the version I've been running since tuesday last week, a few points to be aware before everyone jumps in and runs this update.
1. It will update your firmware, not just the software.
2. A number of additional files are required.
3. Voice Command does not work.
4. IQ V2 Routes do not work.
Apart from this it all works well, you will need a fully activated V8 map to take advantage of IQ routes |

Not clear about your points 1 and 4....
Regarding #1 -- The firmware IS the software, isn't it?
#4 -- What is V2 of IQ routes?
and about #3....VR is killed? _________________ David |

Just tried the cab with the following results :
Visual appearance changed - very "techy" wil take a while to get used to it i think
FM out of directions is no longer available (can still transmit music etc though)
Text to speech was disabled at first - cured by reinstalled text to speech voice
Voice control worked for me but I suspect the cab is missing a few drivers eg blue tooth needed updating as soon as i installed it - Home doesn't recognise the OS has 8.2 even though the tomtom itself does.
as mentioned above IQ 24/7 doesn't appear to be enabled (though this may be hidden from view - IQ routes themselves are enabled and working.
The big problem for me was losing FM transmission of driving instructions so i reverted back to 8.01 pretty quickly.

If I put this on and don't like it, do I just restart the TomTom connected to laptop, TT Home will start and then i just do a backup? It won't screw up the backup reinstallation from the Home application?
Maybe I don't want to live on the edge after all!! Want TTS and bluetooth. How do you update bluetooth?

This is why we recommend that you always use Explorer, as you can may sequential Backups. _________________ Richard
