I am traveling to the UK this month and have purchased TT3. I live in the states but I installed it and it seemed to work. I had to remove bits to get my Routis software to work in the states.

I have an Ipaq 4150 and Fortuna Clip On. Can anyone give me tips so I can hit the ground running so to speak when I arrive. I need it to work immediately to get me to my desintations in the UK and I will be unable to get online and ask questions should I have any trouble. Thanks in advance.

When you disembark from the plane your GPS receiver is confused because it's waking up somewhere completely different from where it went to sleep. Therefore you have to expect a five minute delay until you get your first fix. Eiter switch the GPS on when off the plane (and try to maintain a little bit of sky view) or factor that delay in when you get your rental car.

Already now you should find the places where you want to go on the TomTom map and add them to the Favourites. This makes it very easy to navigate - three taps in TomTom and you are on your way.

Streets in the airport may not be on the map. Boldly go in the approximate direction of your destination, and TomTom will start calculating a route when it hits a "normal" road".

Have fun in the UK! Remember, they drive on the wrong side of the road...

TT3 has nothing to do with the GPS receiver. The correct question would have been "Any particular settings in the TT GPS driver? " Anyhow, as long as you don't use anything above TT GPS 2.07 you should be fine.

You'll have plenty of time to setup tomtom whilst you're parked in one of many trafficjams!

Also remember when you buy fuel that the 85p sign outside garages is per litre not gallon Evil or Very Mad .

For the most part driving in the UK during the day is no longer fun or cheap. Sad

I hope you enjoy your trip. Thumbs Up

No, its the rest of the World (with a few exceptions) that drives on the wrong side of the road. Not the U.K. Confused

If you are in central London - expect more than 85p/L. There's a gas station (petrol station) in London near Sloan Square that is charging £1.12 per litre today! That's about $7.50/US gal !

Enjoy the trip and remember to keep the rubber side down.

What is the average price per litre of petrol in the UK now? We will be driving in southern UK not in London though.

Filled up at Sainsbury's Hedge End Southampton last night at 22:30. Unleaded was £0.809p per litre.

It does really depend on the garage, garages like Q8 tend to be more expensive, so are Esso, most supermarkets will get a better price. There's two garages within 50 yards of each other near me, one charges 80.9p a litre, the other 84.9p, but you still see a lot of cars going for the 84.9p garage which I think is rediculous!

Generally most supermarket garages like Safeways/Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco in the south are around 80.9p to 82.9p.

The best thing of all is if you can do shopping in supermarkets like Safeways/Morrisons then you can get so much off per litre, I usually get around 5p off a litre bringing me down to 75p which isn't too bad.

Oddly, the cheapest diesel around where I live (western mid Bedfordshire) tends to be at the two local Shell garages.

I don't tend to watch petrol prices, as I've driven diesel cars since 1995.

The cheapest fuel I know of is from the local Asda supermarket (which is owned by the Wal*Mart group). Like DavidW, all of my family have had diesel vehicles for some time.

However on Wednesday I got some petrol in a couple of jerry cans for our mowers (I have a lot of grass that needs mowing) and was accused of panic buying because of the potential fuel protests that may happen this weekend Rolling Eyes . Prices were:

Petrol: 80.9p per litre
Diesel: 81.9p per litre

Regards,

On the subject of losta's original question...

I have just started using TT3 with the Fortuna Clip-on and as TT3 doesn't list the Fortuna I had to set the GPS device to NMEA 0183v2 38400.
