|

Since the latest upgrade, I have been getting frequent GPS communication timeouts to my TomTom BT unit. However when these timeouts occur, the BT connection is still established between the TT GPS and the Ipaq, if examined in the BT manager.
I do not get timeouts in TomTom or Navigator (leadek).
Is anyone else experiencing this or know what the problem is? |

what exactly did you upgrade - your PocketPC, your GPS, or your software? _________________ Lutz

The upgrade was the Memory Map OS 2004 software to V4.2.1 on the PC which also upgrades the PPC to the same version. |

It seemed to be related to having installed TomTom GPS 3.01 and then uninstalling it to go back to 2.09 which did not totally fix the TomTom deselection issue.
After totally uninstalling TomTom2 then installing TomTom3, then upgrading it without the GPS3.01, the problem appears to have gone away. I will find out more when I use it this weekend. |

Nope still frequent GPS communication time out errors, but the BT connection has not dropped out and the BT manager thinks it is fine.
TomTom3 is working well with no drop outs at all. MM is doing something odd. I will revert to the earlier PDA version and see how that goes. |

Subjectively, I reckon I have seen unexpected BT timeouts on my iPAQ 4150 running pocket MM Nav connected to a Fortuna Clip-On. The only GPS app I'm using is MM Nav, so it can't be TomTom.
I also notice that MM Nav stops responding to taps or button presses and sometimes when dragging the map, it feels as though it is floating in treacle.

After doing lots of walking over the weekend I have found out what seems to be causing the problem. It appears to be the breakdown of the bluetooth path between the TomTom unit and the iPAQ. Normally I have the TT unit on my coat shoulder or on the top of my rucksack. As I had no rucksack or coat I had placed the TomTom unit on my sunglasses which were hanging from their safety chord down my front. With my PDA in my hand or front pocket it never lost contact and worked perfectly.
It must be that my body is enough to cause a temporary block the bluetooth signal, even at a range of under 1m and that Memory Map is poor at recovering from an interupted signal. Certainly TomTom had no problem with the unit on my rucksack or shoulder. |
