Is that all the type approval document exists of? I thought it would be a lot more detailed than that. _________________ Gone fishing! |

There will be very much more to the approval document than that shown in the link, there are specifications, test results, details of installation etc.
A very quick search reveals this page is just one of those missing from the full Type Approval document.
FWIW, this link from the Cheshire Safety Cam Partnership discusses the approval. In their case although only the approval was for installation above the lane or adjacent it was tested and found to be accurate so the prosecution of drivers in other lanes was held as being valid.
I would suggest that anyone thinking that simply moving lanes is sufficient to avoid prosecution may be in for a shock.
Another interesting link from the Home Office here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ha! I still change lanes for SPECS just to be safe.

Damn, I'd never thought of that. I just stay within the speed limit. _________________ Tim |

Interesting question... I wasn't sure if they actually "take a picture" of even just the number plate at all, or if they simply use the video data to work out the number plate and only use that data.
So a quick "Google" and I found this site: http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/. At the bottom of the page is a download of a short Powerpoint presentation of slides.
That shows the images recorded - the entry and exit cameras have a close up black and white image of the numberplate area and the exit camera has a colour "overview" picture that shows the whole of the front of the car and through the windscreen.
The examples shown in their slideshow don't give a good view of the driver though. |
