Hi, I just got my BT-359 last week and have been busy experimenting ever since. I got the receiver paired up with my HTC Wizard (a.k.a. Cingular 8125) without too much trouble, though I'm not sure exactly how I did it. Next, I got the receiver paired up with my Dell XPS1710 laptop--again, without really understanding the mysteries of Bluetooth. Finally, I have a Dell X51V that I rarely use since I got the 8125, so I decided to get it paired up so my wife can use GPS when we're apart and I'm carrying my 8125 phone. And lo, I managed to get it up and running.
However now, after many hours of trying, I can't seem to get any of the three devices to communicate with the GPS anymore. Is it unusual to try to pair this many devices with a GPS? I haven't even been able to back out of this mess. I'm totally frustrated with Bluetooth which, though I'm fairly tech-literate, I've never been able to master. I have a suspicion it has to do with comm ports. Please help me--at least on a conceptual level--understand what my Bluetooth is (isn't) doing. Better yet, I could use a step-by-step menu to help me solve this problem. I'm desperate.

Make sure you only have the bluetooth switched on on one of the three devices, what you might find is that one of them is connecting to the GPS automatically and once connected the others will not be able to see it - Mike
Thanks for your quick reply, Mike. At one point I did have two devices plus the GPS in one room running Bluetooth. I had eliminated that confounding variable, so that's not it. I can go all the way through the setup process and my 8125 sees the BT-359 out there, but it refuses to communicate. Still stymied. _________________ N29 54.962

Whilst you have set up the device in BT manager for the GPS did you perform the step of setting an outgoing comm port on the PDA phone to be able to use it, this last part often gets missed.
Have a read through This post and see if it looks any different to what you have done, the actual GPS device and port numbers will be different due to the hardware I use, but it might give you a clue in the right direction.
If you don't get anywhere with the above I do have a HTC Wizzard so I can check out the actual port config required if need be - it just needs charging up!
Since the initial setup have you messed around with the actual GPS applet in the setting menu as this can also affect what the device does? - the MS GPS "sharing" feature is best left alone as it doesn't work very well IMHO - Mike
Yes, Mike, I have read the post you refer to. It's very thorough and clear, and I thank you for it. In it you mention the "MS GPS 'sharing' feature." Is this also known as GPSinfo? I tried to use this utility early on and it seemed to work. Now, though, when I ask it to Scan or Start GPS nothing happens. Maybe I should skip GPSinfo and go directly to my mapping program (Mapopolis 4.0). Also, remember that I've gotten the HTC Wizard and GPS to play happily together for a couple of days.
I have another question (well, a series): When I set up my Outgoing Port in the Bluetooth wizard, will that be the same port Mapopolis wants to use? Is it an arbitrary decision on my part? In other words, if I set BT wizard to port 6, then I set the Mapopolis port to 6 as well? I am assuming the GPS receiver has no "port" per se; it just sends out a stream that is captured by whatever port I set up on my HTC Wizard. I hope I'm not making this more complicated than it needs to be, but I have to get to the bottom of it. _________________ N29 54.962
