According to my local pda/satnav website TomTom issued a press release stating they are to send all MapShares back to TeleAtlas. According to this
info, the MapShares should be included in Q4 2008 TA map release. |

Another example of TomTom being somewhat "economical with the truth"...
They specifically said when MapShare was launched that our corrections would be incorporated into the next maps.
We since discovered that the correction data itself is map specific and TT weren't copying it from one version to another, and the quote from Tele Atlas' CEO shows it wasn't happening via them either.
Hopefully that will now all change! |

I think the reason for this "partial truth" is because TomTom is talking marketing way (next map) and all others (including us/end users) try
to convert those marketing talk into real life meaning.
After a while one could start to think think what they really meant by saying 'next map' ... is it next map release from TomTom, future maps from TeleAtlas etc.
As a side note... looking past from today it seems that the most close to the real life information on mapshare and merging the correction with maps could have been found in 'Open TeleAtlas letters to customers' available on TomTom site / inverstors section.

TomTom has developed unique technologies to collect and process map related data from our user base of over 15 million navigation devices. This information will be delivered to Tele Atlas after the proposed merger to allow Tele Atlas to substantially improve its map creation, enrichment and maintenance process. The improved maps will then be made available to all Tele Atlas’ customers at the same time.

in theory, the idea should work. in my opinion, if it's working the way it could possibly someday should, it'd be great. the more information tele atlas gets, the better the maps will be, and the happier we'll be. |
