Hi
We are off to New Zealand in October touring for a month. We want to take our Garmin Nuvi 660, but the price of the New Zealand SD card is about £200. Have looked on NZ websites and can get a card for about £120. Still horrendous.
It almost seems cheaper to buy a new sat nav when we get there and E-Bay it on our return!
Before forking out this sort of money does anyone have any experience of using a Garmin in NZ, or any alternative suggestions?

Have a look at the New Zealand Open GPS Maps Project http://gwprojects.orconhosting.net.nz/gps
I used the autorouting/street searchable maps with my 76CSx but the Nuvi is also listed as being compatible.
They don't always get it right, sometimes roundabout exit numbers would be wrong but the path through correct and there's a whole lot of blocked off streets in Hastings it would try and route through, but common sense, as with using any GPS, would get me there. |

Cheers Frabble
Downloaded this but could not get it to work. What did you have to do to get the sat nav to recognise it? |

If you downloaded the .exe file it will install in MapSource then just select the
8 separate maps plus the zenbu (poi) map and upload to your Garmin.
the map is update at least once a week with all corrections.
enjoy your trip.

I downloaded and ran the executable which installs the map and makes the necessary registry changes for MapSource. In Mapsource, selected all the maps and since it was only 36 Mb, transferred them to my unit directly. |
