Having just tried measuring the current drawn from the active10 while switched off I get no noticable difference between the battery plugged in to the device or when disconnected, so it looks like the current draw issue might have been resolved.
I will try this test with other measurment equipment to make sure but the kit I used is good enough for a quick "look see" :
CFD 200 CF DMM card
ipaq-4700 PDA
Fluke i30 Clamp
There is a picture of this set up which I have used before for similar testing, the only difference this time was the new software and the rechargable battery:

Sorry to damp this hope down, but I have just measured the current consumption of my 1.16 Satmap when switched off. It show at the same 32 to 34mA that it did on V1.03 of the firmware. So I'm afraid it looks like we will have to keep on taking the batteries out... |

Was that using AAs? There has been some suggestion that the same inconvenient power-off drain doesn't occur for some reason when using the dedicated Lipol battery.
Has anyone confirmed or disproved Mike's data when using the LiPol battery? |

My multimeter is flat so I haven't measured it but I can confirm from my usage that there is no observable loss of charge when left unused for three days. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I measured the 32mA drain with rechargable NiMH AAs. Not sure why LiPOL would be different, but I can't confirm as I haven't got one. |

I decided to try this again as I have more time available today, measuring low current with a clamp is never too easy, to increase the signal being measured I made ten turns of cable through the head of the clamp, this works out to 1mV = 1mA when used this way.
First of all with the active10 not connected the probe is set as close to zero as possible
When connected, with the active10 off there is around the 32-34mA as can been seen on the iPAQ display
This constant burden will eventually flatten the battery, but as it is rechargeable this is not as much of an issue as flattening Lithium disposable cells was.
When I tried this the other night with a single pass through the probe the signal was so low it was lost in the noise as the meter reading wanders around by +/-2mV - Mike |

Thanks for doing the test mike.
Does anyone know whether this constant drain is an issue that could be fixed in firmware, or is it a limitation of the hardware? |
