I'm shortly off to N Wales. Is there anybody who would be happy to loan me the relevant map of the area, to save me £100 ? You have my word (10/10 on Ebay) that I will replace it in the event of lost/stolen or damaged. |

Lets not get silly here. So long as the licence does not preclude it I don't see any issue with the OP's request. _________________ Darren Griffin |

For your information gardenshed , you may not have noticed that this is the Satmap forum. ...I already have paper versions...it's the SD card version I would like...to borrow, for my Satmap, OK ? I suggest you take more care next time. |

The Satmap software set-up is different to others. The software 'only' comes on a memory card and is locked to that card.
So unless the OS have employed a very restrictive licence, there would be no issue with 'borrowing' a card for a short term trip. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have used my Satmap OS 1:25k SD mapping cards in three different A10s (trying to find one that matched the performance of my Garmin 60CSx) and the cards worked equally well in all three. |

They do.
In fact, SatMap make it an official selling point of their system that cards can be freely swapped, re-sold and lent to others. To quote the FAQ on their website; "You can only use our maps on the Active 10. However, you can swap our maps between units (just as you can swap paper maps with your friends), so the maps are not locked to any single Active 10."
This is because the secure nature of the cards means that copies will not work, so unauthorized duplication would be pointless.
I'm not sure that the company had an internet-based swap shop in mind, though, when they designed the system. They might get a bit ticked-off if nobody bought the cards because they were available from an online lending library |

Assuming that maps are the razor blade part of their business model, they'll be even more 'ticked off' if we don't/can't buy them. |
