Hi Doug,

Thanks for the quick reply, I saw that this question was sort of covered, but only when the battery was low, mine is ok but only up to 80% volume, but then distorts badly and the screen flickers as the announcements are being read out. It was the fact that the battery was fully charged that was making my request different, plus I had forgotton about the screen flicker...

I had the flicker and distortion today on full battery!

Hi Doug,

Thanks again for the reply,

Did you stick with your unit or did you exchange it for another unit? If you exchanged it was the new 920 any different?

Cheers

Steve.

But the idea is to use the device in accordance with the supplied equipment, this includes the car charger cable, do you have this powered when you are experiancing this flicker of the screen?

That said I have seen the screen of my 720 flicker a little during a hands free call even when powered up, but I don't see this as an issue at all, I don't look at the nav screen all the time, in use probably less than 1% of the time, so the odd flicker doesn't bother me in use to be honest - Mike

I don't see it as a serious problem. In any case, I bought it from Amazon and returning it would be a pain!

The low battery issue with flicking screen and volume distortion appears to be normal for the 720 & 920.

Just use it with external power and it will work fine.

There is no such thing as a perfect 720/920, just ask DennisN. Laughing

As long you don't have a unit that has buzzing/no microphone audio on handsfree than it seems not worth exchanging it as you could end up with a far worse unit, and if you subscribe to TT Traffic there will be a long delay in transferring your subscription to any replacement unit. I had to wait 2 weeks for that to be sorted out!

Hi Guys,

Yes points taken,
I was just liking the idea of using the unit without the cable running up to it, I hate cables, I am now looking at hard wiring it to avoid this.

One quick question, when using the bluetooth phone functionality, to end a call when using the remote is there a quicker way than going back to the menu , then selecting mobile phone, then selecting end call? in know you can just touch the screen telephone icon then touch end call, but with the way the laws are changing they don't want us touching thses units at all.

Its just that when I pushed end on my phone not the TomTom it throws a wobbler and then wont speak to me with any audio until I turn it off and back on again. I discovered that if you end the call on the TT it works OK but is long winded.

You can add Place call or similar to the quick menu if you tick the correct box, and you can choose upto 6 functions in the quick menu.

A shortcut Icon on the main screen will appear when this is enabled.

Hi Technic,

I do not seem to be able to access the quick menu by the remote though, I was wondering why I couldn't, and just thought that not all functions were available by remote.

Can you access the quick menu by the remote?

Or can Darren on the test unit?

I have been a little disappointed by the remote too.

In addition to not being able to end the call (I haven't tried your method of selecting mobile phone again), it doesn't work for pressing bleepy numbers on the automatic call answering - for help, press 1, for a rude reply, press 2, to buy a Congestion Charge for today, press 3. Etc.

Very unhappy about Browse Map (and Browse Map of Route). With the previous remote for x00 and x10 models, you used the left, right, up, down buttons to scroll around the map and the Enter button zoomed in until it got so close, then zoomed out again. With this one, the left right don't do anything, the up zooms in, down zooms out. Enter button fires the normal menu. I used to use that remote so often - I always used to browse route to go in close to my destination to get a decent feel of the final approach and now I can't. Very disappointed.

I have not really been using the remote but just tried after reading your message. I can see why you are disappointed. Being able to control the map must have definitely been a PLUS. I see that what they've done is allow MUSIC control using the remote. Too bad they could not come up with a toggle of sorts - either control MAP or control music. Does the older remote work with the 920 series?

No - 920 one is Bluetooth, older one was wireless. And indescriminate - I have discovered that the remote can be refused by the GO, a big advantage with three of them - I can just link it to one of them. The previous wireless one got everything within range, so if you had more than one GO, it would fire them both off (and, incidentally, allegedly fire off any in cars parked next to you in a traffic jam, but I've never known that to happen).

I consider that "Sport" when stuck in a traffic jam, if nothing else it relieves the boredom - Mike

Hi Darren
Its been a month since you told us that you were had received your Go 920. How’s the testing coming on? I, like plenty of others are looking forward to reading your review and we wait with bated breath. Will it get the thumbs up or the death of a thousand cuts? Is it worth the money or not? Will it……Oh all will be revealed if we remain patient.

I'm writing it at the moment and it 'should' be available later this week.
