DO A FORUM SEARCH for "n95" (in JUST the TomTom section) to find previous posts about it. The "search" button is at the top of this and every page.
Looking at one of the 25 results it says you need to update the n95 to the latest firmware. |

Sorry but Darren is mistaken. The two traffic sources are different.
The TMC updates come from TrafficMaster and the GPRS updates are an
amalgamation from various different sources NOT limited to TrafficMaster and come from TomTom's servers.
TomTom's website states that TomTom Plus Traffic is the "Most accurate and up-to date traffic information from the best available sources" and that TMC is the "Simplest way to get basic traffic information". They also state that "TomTom is able to provide more accurate information than the TMC".
See here:
http://www.tomtom.com/page.php?Page=rds-tmc
In an email from Tomtom, they said that getting traffic information over GPRS is more reliable and more comprehensive. TMC mainly reports on traffic conditions where there are Traffic Master TMC sensors, but it also gets information from the police and Eddie Stobart lorries (yes really!). You can only receive TMC in areas where there is strong reception of Classic FM as the traffic data piggy-backs onto the FM carrier of this radio station. The TMC receiver doesn't have a proper aerial and therefore the signal has to be pretty good (hence all the reception and reliably problems people have with this service).
The Plus Traffic service can give you information on a much wider range of roads.
TomTom are also planning on releasing a new "HD Traffic" service whereby the device will have it's own vodafone sim card. Your tomtom will then become a sensor as well as a receiver of traffic information as it will anonymously relay information about your journey in real-time back to tomtom.
See here:
http://www.tomtom.com/hdtraffic
HOWEVER, using Plus Traffic will incur GPRS data charges and not all areas have mobile phone coverage. The most reliable system will depend on where you live and where you drive. |

RDS-TMC data for the TomTom product range is NOT derived from Traffic Master or its network of road side sensors, iTIS Holdings supply all TomTom devices, the GPRS service is fed a full country map of hold ups, the RDS-TMC uses the same data but only sent out in regional areas depending upon current location.
iTIS do indeed use Stobbert trucks, National Express coaches etc for the "Floating Vehicle Data".
The Traffic Master sensors are used by Traffic Master to supply information to TomTom's competitor's such as Garmin - Mike |

So it looks like HD traffic on a 920 will require a separate receiver for the sim card.

It was suggested in another thread that the mobile phone network would not be able to handle HD Traffic load. Sounds more like another bit of vapourware. 'Course, if they implement it like a couple of other applications (MapShare, Speech Recognition and Latest Map Guarantee spring readily to mind) it won't be a problem to them (or the mobile phone networks)!! _________________ Dennis

I can't see GPRS on Vodafone having any problems at all. It's just text, not much bandwidth. Having worked with Vodafone on GPRS and 3G before, it should be fine. _________________ Doug Weller

No.
Your 920 is already obsolete.
Welcome to the TomTom 9201
New models expected in 2008 ?
probably explains the big price reductions recently. |

BigH, Have you tried Change Preferences/ Manage Maps/ Switch Maps and see what is listed on your device, you have to do a manual switch to use the USA maps, once selected you will need to use the same function to re-select the European maps - Mike |

Hi
Can you please help. I bought a 920 and am struggling to put your speed cameras on to it.
I need instructions der brain me!!! I have looked at the instructions for the dowloading and have managed that fine. The problem I have is transferring from my computer to the 920. Is there a file on the 920 I need to delete or overwrite.
Any help and instructions greatly appreciated

#1 is essential and for the Camera Installing have a look at #4 (for the 910 and x20 link).
If there is anything there you don't understand, just ask again. _________________ Richard

Hi All,
I have just bought the 920, when it is on battery power the voices are distorted at 100% volume even when the battery is fully charged, not when they are just low, can somebody else check this.
When plugged into the cigarette lighter, this does not happen, is my unit faulty?
Technic: you really know how to cheer people up
All replies welcome.

Nope, that seems to be common with 920s and 720s at least.
I have the same problem and asked the same question.
