I too have been caught out - last year for around £275'ish (inc postage) i had purchased unknowingly on a "spoof" page looking for all purposes like a standard e-bay page, i claimed in the normal way and was paid out by Paypal for £255.79 on the 17th November last year, this was the price of the goods purchased but NOT the postage.
I have had two other claims for smaller figures (around £50 to £70) where i hadn't recieved goods and was also paid out on them.
I have always found PayPal useful, however they are very slow in claims and the updates on progress are not always there when required.
There is an e-bay site that tells you about "spoof" pages/e-mails and phishing try HERE. _________________ TomTom Go 60

im very surprised that they paid out on a spoof page. very surprised indeed because (as I'm sure you are aware now!) it was your mistake.
Having said that, just shows you paypal aren't as bad as some make out! :D |

If i remember at the time this happened at a period when "spoof" pages were still rare and there wasn't much on e-bay to warn you, although i had used e-bay for some time it was extremely easy not to realise it wasn't a "real" page.
Maybe e-bay felt obligated, i don't know but although i didn't get the postage i was thankful to get the amount i did and can only thank PayPal. _________________ TomTom Go 60

yeah it a bit of a sick feeling I bet, and a bloody relieved one when Paypal/ebay covered it. If you use firefox, theres a nice extention called "Locationbar²", which highlights the ACTUAL domain, and makes it clearer to spot any fake links etc.

Got £150 credited to the paypal account today. They say they will try and recover the rest from the seller so we are about £30 out of pocket (remainer of the amount paid plus returning postage) which is a lot better than £180.....
will let you know if we get any of the rest back, the £150 has come from paypal not from the seller

eclaire - i know its hard to swallow... but dont expect the rest back. they will only try and get it back from his account - I doubt they will push it further.
Congrats on getting the majority back though - better than a slap in the face eh.

Hi all, just to update you again. We seem to have gor all our money back except for the £7.75 to return it, so that is good for us BUT i have had an email from another person who bought one of the same items and had the same problem and he hasnt had anything back at all.
When we filled our complain we were very factual - eg item says 20gb hard disk, it hasnt got on, item says 4 inch screen and it hasnt got one. dont know if this helped?
i have now got a 910 from another seller - factory recondiditioned to as new one - which i have bought the latest maps for from tomtom and looks to be great. havent managed to get text to speak to work yet and havent tried it in the car as it supposed to be my chrissy pressy!!
how do you register the warranty? ?

It's great news to hear you got all your money back eclaire.
Paypal have a very poor reputation, so you were very lucky.
At least you can enjoy your christmas now. |

Text To Speech.
Make sure you select one of the "computer" voices as only these can handle text to speech.
Warranty
When you link your device to TomTom Home and signup, enter its serial number it will be a known device.

Text to Speech... Check you have a HUGE folder called "Loquendo" on the drive.
Edit - sorry I left this post un-sent and you'd answered while I was away.
Yes TTS only on the "computer voices" and you only get one or two for each language/country |
