Well, finally I've received TMC data from Winter Hill today after over 8 months without any signal
Checking up on the web, Trafficmaster published this info back in July:-
Trafficmaster boosts RDS-TMC with EMAP Radio
For immediate release
20 July 2007
Trafficmaster boosts RDS-TMC coverage with EMAP Radio
Trafficmaster has boosted its RDS-TMC traffic information coverage across the Midlands and Northern England, through a new deal with the EMAP radio network.
This latest contract will see Trafficmaster’s information carried in the FM signal of nine EMAP radio stations, covering major cities such as Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Birmingham.
RDS-TMC traffic information is broadcast over the FM radio network and is received by suitably enabled portable and factory fit in-car navigation systems, to identify traffic problems on or near a chosen route.
Trafficmasters 7,500 roadside sensors monitor traffic flow and generate alerts when speeds fall below 30mph on motorways or A-roads. This unique network generates 7 million records per day, which are processed by Trafficmaster to create the companys RDS-TMC traffic broadcasts.
Trafficmasters Chief Executive, Tony Eales, said:
We believe our traffic information is second to none and this arrangement will make it available to even more customers. It is another significant step in the ongoing development of our RDS-TMC service.
Editors Note:
The specific radio stations and areas are:
96.3 (Leeds: Radio Aire)
96.6 (Stockton on Tees: TFM)
96.7 ( Liverpool: Radio City)
96.9 (Hull: Viking FM)
97.1-103.2 ( Newcastle: Metro Radio)
97.4-103.4FM ( Sheffield: Hallam FM)
97.4 (Preston: Rock FM)
103 (Manchester: Key103)
105.2 (Midlands: Kerrang FM)

Thanks for the info Ken, I will have to get the frequency tables out and update the POI file then, perhaps your signature needs altering though as you are receiving RDS-TMC from WinterHill, just not the same frequency as you used to - Mike |

oooh, traffic in the North West again? I'm in Lancaster, no little blue diamond here yet
Must try it next time I head down towards Preston. Anyone know the extent of the new service yet? _________________ _________________

Signature now changed...
only problem is I've now broken the cigarette lighter in my car, so no TMC as you need the charger for it to function _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Is it worth updating your GTM software version to v4.40?
Noticed you state v4.20 in your signature.
I was getting traffic problems for Galgate M6 tonight from Preston (hooked up to my laptop currently). _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

It will display as channel 99 on the test pages, I receive data from this station in Blackpool with no external feed aerial connected (just been out to the car to try it and over 100 messages flooded in, including the M6 between your location and Preston is congested, so don't go driving South yet to test the reception.
I would think it will work in and around Lancaster though, as the crow flys there is very little difference in distance to WinterHill from where either of us are located - Mike |

I mentioned the improvement I had on Friday in the GM21 thread.
I travel up to Preston from Manchester on the M61 and on Friday morning there was no change but coming back in the evening I had full signal all the way down. |

I haven't noticed any difference with version 4.40. I live on the north side of Lancaster, so the signal is probably behind one or two hills and a little on the weak side.
I'll give it a go tomorrow from the south side of Lancaster, I might pick it up from there. At least I know from you gents that when I'm travelling south it's worth plugging in the GTM12. _________________ _________________

Oops sorry, just checked the GTM SW version on my nuvi 310, the latest version seems to be v4.2, I did update it a few days ago.
I've tried using web updater again, it says I've got the latest version. How do you get SW version 4.40 please? _________________ _________________

Just remembered that the GTM software upgrade only occurs when you hook up your GTM12. Have you done this? _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Yes I did that last week. The GTM12 took the update. Strange thing is it still says version 4.2. Tried doing the process again, just stays the same. Anyone any ideas? _________________ _________________

Travelled down to Preston and Bolton last night - no blue diamond for traffic.
Have spoken to Claude at Garmin this morning, very helpful bloke! He advised that v4.40 was withdrawn quickly due to issues. But stated I should be able to get v4.30 and traffic no problem. He helped me to do a reboot and webupdate without success. Still v4.20 no traffic. He suggested I sent it back to Garmin for them to look at. _________________ _________________

I updated my software to 4.40 last week and it killed my traffic info dead in it's tracks, I have managed to get the Nuvi 310 replaced and all is now well.
I shall now stick to if it isn't broke don't fix it ! |

How easy was it to get you're unit replaced? I've been argueing with Garmin about the GTM12 not working, and they've mentioned nothing to me about version 4.40 being withdrawn. I've got a 350 running V4.60 and GTM 4.40.
If anyone out there comes across a successful way to roll back the GTM stuff it would be apprciated. |
