My Garman i3 is one of the more recent models that did not come with a card, so the UK maps are actually stored within the device’s memory. I have bought a transflash card with proprietary Spain & Portugal maps on it which it's been confirmed will normally open fine on an i3 which has the mapping on a transflash card. However, with my device, when I insert the card into my i3 and switch it on, it does not offer any Spain or Portugal locations to me - it just offers the original UK maps only.
Now I know my device can read from a transflash card as I already have another card which I have used for additional POIs and the speed camera database from this site. When I plug that card in, I can access those via “Food Hotels and More – Custom Points”, but when I plug in the new card containing the Spain mapping it just shows my original maps. Even if I go to “Food Hotels and More – Custom Points” there's nothing else listed.
So my question is, with these newer model i3's which have the original maps stored in internal memory, how can I view, or install maps held on a micro SD card?
Alternatively, is there a way I can transfer the Spain mapping from the micro SD card into the main memory of my Garmin device. However, if I can do the latter, I assume it might overwrite my existing maps, so I also need to also find a way to back up my existing UK maps first so I can later restore them (remember they did not come on a card - they were pre-installed on the device). Is there a way to do this?
So many questions! Hope someone can help me with this
On your settings menu go to mapsource.
If you have your transflash card inserted you should have 2 options of maps to choose.
choose your spain/portugal one and all should be ok _________________ garmin nuvi 250

Thanks sanaar, but no actually that did not work. Mapsource just did not see the maps as available at all.
After much experimentation and research, it's since been confirmed to me by the guy I bought the card from that the maps I bought only work on i3's which had the original mapping installed on a transflash card - not the newer ones with the mapping preinstalled to the device. Don't know whay this is, but anyway the guy has refunded my purchase and I've since bought the latest v9 City Navigator Spain/Portugal maps from Garmin with unlock code and have got them to work fine with my device. _________________ Garmin i3 bought May 06 from www.comet.co.uk for £129.99
