ok, i installed some custom POI like cameras and KFC etc, but as I approch them they are just red boxes even tho i transfered the bmp too...its weird and i want to get the emblem up on the screen, can anyone help me?

Also it alerts a speed or red light camera like 350 mtrs away and thats it, by the time u get to the camera u forgot about it, is there a way to warn 350mtrs away and another warning at say 100 mtrs?? i find it annoying that it wont do this.

thanks

Firstly there is a problem with the bmp file, did you download these POI files from this site? - if so I would try another download as they don't cost anything.
Do not re-name the POI files or do anything with them other than place them in the current active map folder. It is possible your download has become corupted so try another download.

The second warning when approaching a camera is possible by installing a second copy of the Speed camera database to the device, to do this you will have to re-name each ov2 and bmp file, I have used the following in the past:
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.bmp

for the second warning these would become:
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30_1.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30_1.bmp

All the files then go into the map folder, watch the total number of POI files though when doing this, there is a limit of 100 Custom POI categories, so keep a tally on the number of ov2 files you have in the map folder at any one time - Mike

It sounds like you have more than 100 custom pois. Ver 6 TT software will only permit 100 - so you will have to remove some of your pois. This might be your problem. Check in Windows Explorer how many .OV2 files you have

Another option to the one mentioned in the previous post is to download the consolidated speed camera file - all camera types in one file. You could then set a warning at 150 metres for the cameras in this set. You would only have to do it once to get your second warning.

Right.

ICONS:
1. Check the name of the POI files in your map folder. You should find two files for each: e.g. "healthy_eating.ov2" and "healthy_eating.bmp". If the two file names are not EXACTLY the same (apart from the extension) the icon won't show.

2. The .bmp icon HAS to be 22x22 pixels square otherwise it won't show (check this in a "paint" type program on your PC. If you got the files from a POI files website like here, this should be right already. Where DID you get them from, you haven't said?

CAMERA WARNINGS:
1. If you want the alert to be closer (rather than have a second one) just change the distance setting in the "Warn when near" set-up for each POI category (Change Preferences / Manage POI / Warn when near POI). Note this will NOT work for the TomTom supplied speed camera data, but WILL for any other POI including the camera data from here.

2. There is some confusion where you say
Quote:
i dont want to do that re 2nd alert, there is over 150 camera locations and stuffed if im doing that for all of them
and then say
Quote:
nope, well under 100 poi,

The limit is 100 POI categories. To add a second warning, you don't need to change anything for every *location*, just add the category or categories again.

Having said that, I wouldn't bother using this method. Just adjust the warning distance as #1 above, and install a spoken warning from HERE which you won't forget about.

Or, for the benefit of the grandchildren "Magic Word?". Evil or Very Mad
Now point him at somewhere where he can see the effort entailed in producing "gatso", so that he can do "speed camera" for himself!! Or suggest he could always disable that particular warning and have ding-dongs instead.

I wouldn't be too sure he was saying it was now working, could be that he was simply clarifying that he'd checked and the files appeared to be 'ok'?

So you don't want/need any more help?

Lots of specific questions were asked in the various replies and lots of suggestions given and all we got was "ok, checked everything and all ok.".
