I am new to this forum and despite this being a somewhat negative post, don't mistake me for a troll who goes around to different forums just to complain. I seriously need some help here and am totally fed up with Magellan's total lack of customer service.
I have a SportTrack color USA, Streets & Destinations USA & Worldwide Basemap. I purchased the Serial/USB adapter cable since my laptop doesn't have serial ports. I cannot get the laptop to recognize the GPS on any of the USB ports. When I try to do the MAGUP, the software searches for the GPS, but only on Serial ports. Anyone have any suggestions? Is the a USB patch out there somewhere for Streets & Destinations USA?
Also, On my desktop (which does have a serial port) I am having problems loading the above mentioned software. I had to uninstall it last month due to a glitch and now cannot get it to reinstall. When I try to "reinstall" the software, the program asks me if I want to remove the program in its entirety. I click OK, then Finish. I try to reinstall the software again, get the same pop ups, and am right back to trying to reinstall the software. I have also tried hitting "cancel" when it asks me if I want to remove the program in its entirety.
Prior to the "glitch" whatever it was, the program ran fine. I was able to communicate between my GPS and computer and fully utilize my GPS. Now with the problems I am having with the laptop and the Desktop, my GPS is nothing more than a paperweight.
On both computers I am running Windows XP and they are legal copies of the program. Both computers are also up to date as far as all patches (SP-2) etc....I have sent 3 support requests to Magellan and have received no response. I am pretty much totally p*ssed off since I have approximately $860.00 worth of GPS gear and cannot use it at the moment. If anyone on this forum can help me out I'd me much appreciative. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.
The USB to serial convertor should have a driver which creates a virtual serial port. This is the communications port to which to direct the MapSend program. You might have to set the virtual serial port to a number between one and four since many older communications programs cannot access the higher port numbers. This is done in Device Manager.
