Well, I didn't find one so far. And I tried quite a bit. But on the other hand this is just a problem for the x10 devices - can't see the older GO's getting TMC. _________________ Lutz

I wonder if I can come in here and ask exactly what files are needed in order for TTS to work?
The reason I ask is that I have a 910 and TTS is broken. It broke after I reformatted the disk and restored from my first backup. Yes, I did a complete backup so TTS files present in it, thank goodness.
Not only will TTS not work, but the computer voices are not present in the voices list. I am pretty sure that I have every file from the loquandoTTS directory present, and I therefore assume there are other files needed in other directories in order for TTS to work.
OTOH, it could simply be yet another broken TomTom satnav that needs to go back. It isn't the first time.... |

There's a file called libaec.so in the Root of the Drive. What it does I don't know, but I believe it's related to TTS. _________________ Richard

Yes, I see that. I also see that it's a different size in my original backup to what's there now. I guess it was changed by the new release of software. I tried replacing the current version with my backup version but it didn't change the behaviour. |

Well I have had great support from Ronnie at TomTom. The cause of the problem is that the TT HOME backup utility folds all filenames to lower case. The 910, being a Linux device, is not blind to case, and the Loquendo files have complex capitalisation. Once I restored from my initial backup I disabled TTS.
Ronnie sent me some screenshots to show what the capitalisation should be within the LoquendoTTS directory. I went through renaming the files and the computer voices now work again.
It's therefore probably best to take a copy of the device (or at least the Loquendo TTS directory) using Explorer rather than TT HOME, and keep it safe. TT HOME backup doesl not support the 910 correctly. A file listing would also be a good idea.
Now Kate's working again, it's great. But I don't think we should have to debug TomTom's basic utilities out in the field. This is unacceptable. |

Not only is this unacceptable it could affect hundreds of users, I did suffer a similar problem with my 910 TTS and at least one other forum user has been affected. At least we now know the solution but its easier to rely on Windows Explorer to get the vital back-up, to be honest this is how I recovered my device. Over time I am sure more people will experience this problem - Mike |

That is correct and running Text To Speech on any device other than a 910 is outside of the scope of the license you purchased - this is why TomTom altered the software and locked out other devices from using the earlier code - Mike |
