There is always the school of thought that the criminals can just overwrite the file, however, trust me and dont under estimate yourselves. The average scumbag would have no idea how to do most of the things in this forum!
And why not frighten the pants off the thick ones anyway? Here is a Police splash screen I have made. Simply add your car reg number on the yellow bit.
Hope its useful for somebody, oh I guess that its been explained in other threads how to change the splash, so I wont babble here |

I like it! It won't fool all of them but it might scare the out of a few of the thick ones. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Whilst I'm with you on the principal....I have a TT1 and in the last upgrade we got the option to install a pin code to activate the unit each time it's turned on.
I hope everyone who has seen this has taken that choice up...but I would still like to see the faces of the sh*tbags when they turn them on and see that! _________________ tomtom one

I see where you are coming from but I doubt that any thief will go to the trouble of checking that it works before stealing it. So ether way you’re going to lose your TomTom. The only difference is that this way it may end up in the bottom of a canal rather than being sold on. _________________ Colin

EXCELLENT, well played and I like your style. As already commented upon, it wouldn't fool everyone but it would certainly give them a shock what fun.
If anyone wants to create a splash screen Ray has a good article at
http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/splashscreens.html.
Bear in mind the size relates to a GOx00 series. For the new GOx10 widescreen series the size will be 480 x 272 and the file is now called splashw.bmp.

Been there, seen the movie, wrote the book :-) As someone has pointed out, it may not STOP the bast@&ds, but it may make 'em think (I did this after having a TT500 stolen) Replaced with a One.
Mmm. Can't post an image. Any clues?? _________________ HTC OneX (IceCreamSandwich), HTC DesireHD (Gingerbread) Co-Pilot Premium, GoogleMaps+CamerAlert352

personally i recon a little more subtlety is needed..
a small reminder to enter the pincode to deactivate the "Stop Thief" tracking system.. or something along those lines.. the in your face stuff looks obviously fake to me..
"Stop Thief" tracking system Active.. please enter your pin-code to Deactivate..

However, WHATEVER is input to the screen, so initial start up will show an image/warning, this would only be seen once the unit has been stolen, and then "tried".
PIN code. Yep, that'll slow the scrotes down, and maybe force them to dump the unit, but they will have as much time to play with it (break the code) as they wish.
A warning that the unit is being tracked? It MAY make them THINK they are being tracked. Theoretically, they wouldn't have the brain cells to know whether true or false.
The only REAL way is, of course, to hide the unit and mount. It's a pain in the back-side, but that's the way it is, regrettably (or of course "take a chance".

How cool is that for a Splash Screen.
Can anyone give me any pointers on how you created it. I've done a couple of "basic" pictures as Spash Screens, but nothing as elaborate as these.
I would need BodgerBaz's version (Corncircle County) but for a 700.
I also like the idea of Trog100 of adding "enter PIN" to deactivate.
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
Tx in advance. _________________ Steve

Nice little app, Neil.
(Sure it'll help the "less aware")

there is this place.. it will at least give u a basis to start from.. bit sneaky this but if u enter your plate number and car make.. proceed to payment then right click on the image and select "save image as" u have it free.. he he he
it needs a slight resize and flip but gives u a usable screen.. or u can do it the "correct" way..
if u need a good basic image viewer and basic editor google for irfanview.. freeware and a must have in my books..
do your resize and flip in irfanview and save as a bitmap..
