|
|
Hi
I have a Mio P350 with tomtom5 but cant get a good signal .( outdoor clear sky ) says on for a short while then comes back on then off again
someone said that the GPS may have to be reset or that tomtom software settings may be corruped
Does anyone know how to do a reset the GPS or what i can do to get a stronger signal
The Spec says
SiRF Star III for fast, accurate positioning
The highly sensitive SirfStar III GPS chipset meanwhile, can receive signals from up to 20 satellites for extremely accurate positioning
Lucky to get 2-4
Any help would be appreciated

Goto Start - Settings -System. Tap on GPS. GPS Program Port should be COM4. Tap on Hardware tab should read COM2 Baud Rate 4800.
Return to Today screen. Start TomTom. Tap on bars bottom right of screen. Tap on large white rectangle on right. Tap on Configure.
Select Other NMEA - GPS Baud Rate 4800 - GPS_COM _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Thanks Lost_Property
My Mio is setup using those settings.
the problem in tomtom is that i get one/two bars signal strenght but after about 10/20 sec it loses the signal and goes blank , then 20/30 sec i get another signal for a few seconds before it loses it again, if seems to lock on and off the sats rather than holding the signal
Any Ideas why

As an afterthought, have you downloaded the update to TTN5.210 (5430) from the TomTom site? _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Downloaded WinFast Navigator and did the resets and can get an average fix of 7 sats
Dissconected and then started Tomtom , but still the same problem of losing the signal
In Tomtom GPS Status reset the configaration but still no improvements
Now to make it all more confusing , yesterday my Holux GPS Antenna from ebay arrived , plug it in and signal in Tomtom GPS status improved from 1/4 to 3/4 strenght and more sats , great I thought
BUT after a minutes the signal goes dead , have to unplug the Holux and back again and its fine for another few minutes then its gone again
So now i am really ***** by the whole thing , all i want is for it to work for more than a few minutes
the spec for the Holux is
Frequency : 1575MHz ? 10 MHz
Input Voltage: 2 ~ 5 VDC
Input Current: 6mA, @ 3V input
Antenna Type: PATCH
VSWR: 2:1
Polarization: Circular (RH)
Impedance: 50 ohms
Azimuth Coverage: 360 degrees.
Elevation Coverage: 5~90 degrees.
Coaxial cable : RG-174, 2M or 5M
Connector : SMA or MCX or MMCX
Dimension: 43.5 ?34.8 ?13.9 mm
Operating Temperature: -40 ~ +80 ?
Storage Temperature: -40 ~ +90 ?
Operating Humidity: 5% ~ 95%
Mount: Magnetic
Max. Gain : 29dB (21dB@2V, 26dB@3V, 29dB@5V) |

Sometimes it's best to go back to square one rather than going round in circles. Try......
Start - Settings - System - SysInfo - Clean Boot. Tap Start to begin clean boot.
When finished switch device off with slider at bottom. Leave it a couple of hours then switch back on and re-set your settings.
Download TTN5.21 from TT site and install. Format your SD Card and re-load maps via a Card reader.
Now see if there is an improvement. If not I would guess you have a faulty unit.
If there is an improvement try re-setting NMEA with Winfast to
GGA 1, GLL 1, GSA 1, GSV 5, VTG 1, MSS 0, User 0, User 1, User 0. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Hi Woody,
Having probably been one of the only happy Mio A201 TomTom users, I have since bought my daughter a P350.
However... not so happy now
I am having the same issues as you appear to have. The unit takes ages to lock onto very few satellites and the signal is very poor and easily lost. All the hardware settings are correct and I know the TTN 5.21 is OK as it works great in my A201.
I wondered if you fianlly managed to resolve your problems? If so please advise what worked.
Cheers |

The problems you are having appear to be very much like those on some of the P550's where it was found there was a fault with a batch of units and they had to be returned for repair/exchange. I wonder if there is a batch of P350's with a similar problem. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
