Q2 is also the Quest 2 to Garmineers, hence the confusion.

Ok

Just for clarity

that link to the mapquest is all very fine BUT its misleading cause even though its dated "2006 navteq " at the bottom right, it is NOT the latest navteq maps of the Irish Republic.

These maps in the link do NOT include the Bundoran Co. Donegal bypass which is clearly shown on the screenshot below (taken from the Q2 2006 maps i have)......

anyway I got Q2 2006 last friday and its the very latest Navteq with the most up to date maps for Ireland available at this present time.

Very impressive ...if you get a chance to view these maps you will be impressed.

Even Bundoran bypass in Donegal is mapped on it.

Could you tell us where to view these Maps for Garmin with the Bundoran bypass on it?

I have both the MetroGuide v8 and CityNavigator v8 and would like to compare the detail.[/quote]

I dont have a garmin so i cant have a look, but i am reliably informed that the most recent Garmin maps (from navteq ) do NOT include the bundoran bypass.

Also worth noting is that Garmin also use tele atlas so again as im not a garmin fan i cannot comment further than on the info ive received.

BTW watch out for teleatlas (ireland) ...there due a big release shortly.

Eirlink,

You're a troll.

You haven't answered any of the above questions put to you and where your sources originate.

You can browse Garmin's maps on their website

Really, I have never heard of this. When did they start doing this and what countries do they use TeleAtlas maps for?

Garmin will have the new Ireland NavTeq map on V9 which is released in September

How do you know v9 is coming out in September? Is this based on any fact or is it just a rumour?

If it's just a rumour, then I'll start one of my own. Taunt

"Garmin will announce Europe v9 map update in January 2007 but it will be late coming out and won't actually be available until sometime in March 2007. "

There. I have said it so now I just need to repeat it on a few dozen forums and it will be true. Wink

Skippy,

This was the target date mentioned on the GPS Passion site from Garmin at the start of summer.

If it has changed then mea culpa.

You could be right, Skippy. When I spoke to a Support guy at Garmin last week he said he didn't know when v9 would be released, but guessed it would be January 2007.

Hearing about V9 has me all excited.

I appreciate some comment have been made on this already but does anyone have any more [latest] information on when V9 will be available for the Nuvi.

I have just come across this site, and like all the other Irish map users its great to see that Navteq have now available the full monty for Ireland, well almost I just looked up the Mapquest version and am very dissapointed to find a Cross Roads just a few hundred meters up the road from my house is a Tee junction and about two km of road missing, I have a Dell X30 with Navteq maps for Europe about two years old,, it works very well in the UK and Europe, as I used it this summer caravaning in Germany and Italy, I would like to upgrade, who provides the best Navetq maps of Ireland, is it best to stick with the Dell/Navteq version, whats the latest version with full coverage of Ireland.
Do they fix the missing road section in updates, would it be a good idea to let Navteq know about this missing road, so far I have not updated at all

Conrod1,

Jeez, that's a lot of questions with just one full stop in the whole sentence. :o

The post will probably get more answers if you number each query on a separate line.

Well Kevmac your right about the fullstops, thats easy to fix but what about the missing piece of road.

I since tried to update my Dell Navteq software on the X30, things didnt go to well, when I tried to load the maps it said, wrong version of map data found :415, is the software specific to Dell or Dell PDA model.

Is the route 66 or say Destinator software model specific or will they run on any PDA.

Can the latest software be purchased direct from Navteq.

As the cost of Navteq is rather steep, would it be a better proposition to have stand alone software that would work on any PDA.

I am not an expert on PPCs since I only used CoPilot 5 for a year or so.

You are not stating what GPS software you are using.

Map updates can only be got when the software package is updated.

For example: CoPilot 5 to CoPilot 6.

I got an e-mail from Navteq saying that the new Q2 2006 maps were available for my Dell Axim X30. There was a link to their website which took me to a purchase page but I didn't buy it. I may be able to hoke it out for you. Best thing to do is go to the Navteq website. You can input your details (what kind of device you have etc) and it automatically checks for the latest updates. Here, you should see Q2 2006 maps.

Good luck Wink
