- My current PDA, HP IPAQ 5450 is not listed as supported at TomTom for v6
- The phone that plan to buy, SE P990i is not listed as supported

That means I'm now "have to" pursue other options for navigation
I realize that time is not standing still, equipment gets old and there is an end of life for all products

I have been a satisfied customer of TomTom since v2 and in spite of complaints about different issues, I have been coming back all the time
The upgrade options over the years "helped" me to take that decision
The last upgrade, v3 with local maps to v5 with European maps was an excellent offer

In my car I now have a built-in GPS system which is not as good as TomTom, but it does its job
In the boat, I now have a Garmin GPS which is much better then the PDA/Fugawi combo I have been using

To be honest, it is the "technician" in me that have helped me to "motivate why I also have needed TomTom"

So, I understand TomTom's reasons for not supporting everything on the planet but since TomTom can not be used on a SE P990i I will be happy with what I have or
check out other navigation options for the P990i
No hard feelings

Since when has tomtom's official list made any difference?

Wait until it's released and see what the users on these forums get up to.

With help from this site I've run tomtom on all sorts of "unsupported" devices.

Not quite manged it on a Psion organiser yet, but never say never Laughing

I would think the 5450 would as it has the same windows version (i think) as the ipaq 17xx and 19xx series which are listed

I emailed TomTom customer support regarding an HP5550 and recieved the following communicative one liner

"If it is not on the compatibility list that means it is not supported"

Looks like TomTom are going to lose a lot of customers as their compatibility list is not very big and I'm sure very few people will be blackmailed into upgrading their PDA just for this

Not supported can mean different things. It doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work. We have been told by TomTom that we can publish screenshots and any screenshots I post will be from an iPAQ5555.

There is a photo of TomTom 6 running on the SE M600i (UIQ3) at a trade show, on Esato forums (reproduced below). We live in the hope that it will see a release...

Not supported can mean you are totally stuffed. As I have experienced in recent weeks

Earlier this year I purchased a GPSmile with TT5 and had activation undertaken by the vendor. When this was stolen I replaced it with a Mio P550 and activated online without problem "safe" in the knowledge that at least 10 vendors sell the P550 TT5 combination.

Earlier this month the Mio was replaced due to the well publicised recall. Now my problems began in earnest.

First up I was over my 2 activations in 6 months so no online activation but a call to TT support was required.

Call was taken politely I was asked for the PDA details and on stating it was a P550 the support officer invoked TT licencing and refused to activate the software.

I requested a formal email and the response is below
Quote:

Dear Mr./Ms Roberts,
Thank you for your call
Re: Activation & Mio P550
Thank you for your clarification on the item in question of activation however Tom Tom license agreement states adamantly that only items on it's compatibility list will be activated by the customer service or the customer.
Any deviation from the compatibility list may cause adverse consequences that Tom Tom is not liable for this also implicitly means That items not on the compatibility list For example the Mio- a201and the P550 will not be activated by any Customer support staff under any circumstances as these devices are not on our official compatibility list.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

The verbal statements given to me were with the undercurrent you should go back to the vendor and demand your money back but we were not prepared to take any action against the company that sold you the item.

A google search today "p550 tomtom" reveals that there are at least a dozen companies that will sell me this combination and the combination with v6 which on subsequent discussions with TT was confirmed as having been tested with the P550 and unlike the 350 had failed testing.

I am now initiating discussions with Mio and the vendor direct to resolve my issue but in light of all the threads on this board a move to v6 might not be on the cards
