I have a TT510 on order but will not receive it until the 10th, I am now starting to think I should maybe of ordered the 710 to get the complete europe map. We are planning a driving holiday across the alps into Italy but maybe not until late next year or 2008, Should I get a 510 now and buy the maps when I need them(more up to date?)or just stump up for the 710 now and save any hastle later.
I assume the only difference between the 510 and 710 is the maps if not please point out the differences.

Many thanks.

Barry.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will stick with the 510 then get the maps when I need them. My father has a TT One would the maps for the 510 be compatable with the TT One and if only one of us used it at any given time would that be ok?

I am having the same dliema, do I go for the 510 of 710 ?

I can see the point of view that says buy the 510 and then update the maps later but this could cost an additonal £100 plus. Can maps be updated or do you have to throw the old one away and buy new ?

Also, can anyone advise on the SD cards provided with these 510 and 710 models. What size are they and how much expansion do they carry ?

Still undecided !!

I chose a 510 for several reasons;
    although the 710 comes with Europe maps, I personally have no need for them
    I think the 710 has a remote control - I couldn't see the need for it
    the 710 appears to be as rare as rocking horse droppings anyway
    and I couldn't see the point in paying for extras I didn't need

I'm looking to get the US maps later when I go to the US again, but they wouldn't have come with the 710 anyway, so it's not a factor

As for the memory cards, the 510 SD card is 256MB (Windoze shows 236MB capacity) and ought to provide you with more than enough capacity. Mine has an extra voice, POI additions, additional map colours and more, and has about 5MB free (it says...) In theory you can fit almost any size of SD card, and just get more space each time, but I wouldn't know if the firmware can actually address the very high capacities - much like Windows 132GB limit for hard drives. If you get desperate for space, you might try a 512MB card, but I can't see anyone needing more than that; just make sure it's a high speed one - I gather TTGs have trouble with the older, lower speed, cards.

I might copy the TT card to the 512 in my digicam one day and see what happens...
