We have confirmed that technically TTS works on all devices (down to TomTom GO Classic) - give enough space on the SD card (minimum 300 MB required).
As was stated before this is a legal grey area. We haven't found anything in the fine print regarding Loquendo, but we know of license issues for other platforms.
Hence we cannot yet give the instructions on how to install TTS. Hopefully TomTom will come up with an answer soon, and hopefully it is a positive answer. _________________ Lutz

Well, once you can give the instructions, I'm certainly interested _________________ TomTom Go 700 (FW 6.150, MOWE v606, Tomtom Home, external antenna, external microphone, Drumma sun visor) / Motorola ROKR / Palm T|X |

Sorry. TomTom have informed us that this was an glitch from their side, and will no longer be possible on any other machine. Their next software version will actively prevent TTS from running, unless a 910 is detected.
I am disappointed by that decision, to say it mildly. _________________ Lutz

Is this one of their reasons that 6.12 was pulled? And will also take ages for a newer version to come out? _________________ Tom Tom ONE |

no, 6.12 was pulled because of the SD card timing issues. _________________ Lutz

Of course they test their software . . .
They have the largest testing team in the world . . .
Their poor customers of course, the same people who also provide most of their support services . . . |

"Their next software version will actively prevent TTS from running, unless a 910 is detected."
Based on this I will be very careful not to upgrade, but from what I have seen so far the upgrades seem to modify the SD card only, not the internal firmware.
If you apply an update, and then insert the original SD card (ie the original one) the updates are no longer available. If this is correct, ensure that you all backup your original SD card before applying future updates.
TomTom now have a problem, as theres no technical reason why all units cannot have TTS this is purely profit / marketing driven. This maybe why my unit shows as a TomTom 710 running standard 710 software on their site, so what will be the difference between standard & delux software ? |

Nasty TomTom!!!
I REALLY REALLY want TTS and would be happy sitting at 6.14, but I'm sure even if we can "get hold" of the files, they'll introduce something to stop it's use even if we don't upgrade.... _________________ Steve

It's a bad decision.
they should roll out TTS across the range - it has been proven it can be done even on an SD card.
If TT keep this up it won't be long before other manufacturers get the jump on them.
At the end of the day it's OK including MP3 player etc. but I buy a GPS System for Navigation and things like TTS are far more important to me for this reason.
We can only hope they see sense but I'm not holding my breath!! _________________ Thanks,

I suspect that TTS will be made available but as a bolt on, and chargeable.
My biggest worry is when they eventually release the TMC unit it will require a firmware upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if the update will disable the TTS, we will be left with a decision, TTS or TMC
We are in exactly the same situation as the Garmin Nuvi's TTS was made to work on all models, and the a future upgrade disabled it.
If it happens I'm hoping someone quickly finds a work around to reenable TTS. |
