No...I think what Darren means is what happens in my car. It's plugged in the power socket in the boot...switched ON. When I turn the ignition ON, then the little green light comes to say that it's charging/receiving 12 volt power. When I turn the ignition off, or in my case...a Honda..remove the key...then the little green light goes off, but the little blue/bluetooth light and little yellow sat receiver light are both still ON and active....so my TT sat nav reception on my PDA is always ON, unless I close the program of course. Confused even further !! ?
I have been using Holux GPSlim236 for two months, and I have got mixed experiences with it. The cold start sometimes takes about 20 minutes, and I don't understand why. I assumed that my gps receiver has some contact error, so I went back to the store and changed it to another one. The problem is exactly the same. In most cases the coldstart takes 2 minutes, (which is much longer than written in manual ~42 sec), and sometimes it even takes more than 20 minutes. Is it a firmware problem? If so, how can I upgrade my Holux firmware? Could anybody help me?
// I borowed a Royal-Tek - BT GPS X-mini SiRF III receiver from my friend, and coldstart is fast enough.//
Unfortunatelly it seems that my receiver is shipped a newer software, my serial is starts with 236-6110.. and the old one is also started with 236-6110.. but the problem with cold start is still exists.
I am very unsatisfied with this receiver, I called the reseller, they promised me to examine this problem, and I don't know what to do next.

Dear Nick,
I have just bought this GPS receiver and wow what a waste off money. The receiver does not get a fix most of the times, battery life is poor, there has been no response from Holux support from the numerous e-mails sent and after reading your comments, Holux really need a relaity check in relation to the garbage they sell. Mine is adorning my garbage bin now which is where it belongs!!
Cheers

Hi NickG
Wow! Your post makes for very interesting reading!
May we be so bold as to make a suggestion:
Instead of procrastinating why don't you share with everybody else your obviously vast experience about this subject and write a review yourself?
We would be especially interested in your scientific analysis of how a SiRF II receiver can outperform a SiRF III one.
We look forward to reading your wisdom. Oh and by the way, we're sorry we can't provide you with a GR-236 because that would be biasing your opinion!

Get a small length of self adhesive Velcro, put the claw side of the velco on the dash and the hooks part on the bottom of the 236, once positioned it will not skate around, otherwise try using it in a door pocket my 236 seems quite happy to pick up a signal anywhere in the car - Mike
